Jordan’s Furniture Charitable Foundation donates Thanksgiving Turkeys to New Haven YMCA

Delivery Event at the YMCA Youth Center with JTeam volunteers

The Jordan’s Furniture Charitable Foundation donated 300 frozen turkeys to the New Haven YMCA for area families in-need. Jordan’s delivered the turkeys to the YMCA Youth Center facility in downtown New Haven and local families came to pick them up. Staff from the Jordan’s Furniture Corporate Office and from the Jordan’s New Haven store were on-site to help unload the truck. “We are always proud to give back to our local neighborhoods but especially during the holidays, when so many people are struggling,” said Jordan’s co-CEO Josh Tatelman. “A big focus of the Jordan’s Foundation is to support children and families in-need. I cannot think of a better way to help than with a Thanksgiving meal.”

Erin Kelly, District Executive Director of The New Haven YMCA Youth Center said “It feels great to have the support of a big partner in the area who can help us reach further into the community. We are always striving to meet the needs of local families, so this partnership with Jordan’s is a tremendous help, especially during the holidays.” To help reach those food-insecurity needs, the YMCA staff has programs for adults and children, plus the network to connect people to the resources they need. This donation event with Jordan’s Furniture, Kelly said, is a continuation of those efforts. Many local families would otherwise go without this Thanksgiving. “It is about community and togetherness. Everyone is welcome,” Kelly concluded. Happy holidays!

  • Coats for Kids & Families Program

2024 Coats for Kids & Families Program launches October 7th Winter coat donations through January 5, 2025

As the price of everyday items like groceries and gasoline continue to rise and temperatures start to drop, families struggling with expenses may find that a warm winter coat is a necessity that isn’t in the budget. This year, thousands of children and adults may otherwise not have access to warm winter coats this winter. As New England’s largest coat drive for nearly 30 years, Caring Partners’ Coats for Kids & Families collects gently used coats of all sizes and for all ages from October 7th, 2024 through January 5th, 2025. After collection, the coats are professionally cleaned and given to local nonprofits, social service agencies, and schools for distribution. Due to the economy, 50,000 warm coats are needed to help those adults and children who may not be able to afford a winter coat this year.

School groups, corporations, communities, neighborhoods, and kind individuals are all welcome to donate coats for children and adults any Jordan’s Furniture, Antons Cleaners, and Enterprise Bank locations now through January 5th.

Coats for Kids & Families has collected, cleaned, and distributed 1,810,839 free coats at more than 70 collection locations and events since the program began in 1995.

Coats for Kids & Families accepts warm winter coats that are new or gently used, good quality, and all sizes. The drive does not accept coats with rips, tears, broken zippers, or permanent stains, nor does the drive accept sweatshirts, vests and spring coats, boots, scarves, or gloves.

According to Eliot Tatelman, President of Jordan’s Furniture, “Jordan’s is happy to continue our support of Coats for Kids & Families by collecting coats and ensuring that anyone who needs a warm, winter coat will have one. Additionally, by donating funds for the popular School Rewards Program, Jordan’s Furniture provides an extra incentive for schools while teaching students the importance of supporting area families in their community. We are proud to, again, be a part of this wonderful program.”

“Today more than ever, we are proud to spend three decades giving back directly to the community through Caring Partners. For 30 years, we have never wavered from our mission: anyone who needs a coat will have one,” said Arthur Anton Jr., COO of Anton’s Cleaners and founder of the program. “Companies, schools, nonprofits, and clubs work hard every year to help us collect, clean, and distribute 50,000 winter coats to anyone who needs one.”

School groups are critical to the program’s success. Each year, more than 200 dedicated school groups are responsible for half of all coat collections. Local public, parochial, and independent schools experience the rewards of community service and get incentivized through the School Rewards Program™ offering six generous prizes to top-placing schools that collect the most coats – leveling the playing field so everyone has a chance to win. The funds for all of the school prizes are generously donated by Jordan’s Furniture.

Partners for this year’s Coats for Kids & Families drive include Anton's Cleaners, Enterprise Bank, Jordan's Furniture, Boston 25, KISS 108, JAM’N 94.5, 101.7 The Bull, 100.7 WZLX, WRKO, and WBZ News Radio.

All donated coats are cleaned free of charge by Anton’s and distributed (never sold) through distribution partners made up of major local nonprofit and social service agencies. Past partners include: Massachusetts Community Action Programs, Salvation Army, Middlesex Human Service Agency, Women’s Lunch Place, BU Medical Center Outreach Van Project, Wish Project, Community Giving Tree, Mental Health Association of Greater Lowell, Strafford County Community Action, Catholic Charities, and more.

  • Adoption Option

Jordan’s Furniture Hosts the 2024 “The Adoption Option” to find adoptive homes for children in foster care

(Reading, MA) – Have you ever thought about adopting a child or sibling group? There are over 2,460 children in Massachusetts who are waiting for adoption right now. To learn more, Jordan’s Furniture hosted “The Adoption Option” on Sunday, October 6, 2024 from 8:30am to 11:00 am at their Reading store.

Jordan’s Furniture hosted the event in collaboration with the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) and the Massachusetts Department of Children & Families (DCF) to help find permanent families for children in state foster care.

“We are so proud to continue our support of foster care adoption and to do our part to help find homes for these great kids”, says Jordan’s Furniture President Eliot Tatelman. “Over the many years, our annual Adoption Option has proven to bring results. It connects families who hope to meet children, and children who hope to meet families. It’s a win-win!” Tatelman adds, “Plus, at the event, guests can talk to families who have already adopted to hear their unique stories and to get their individual perspectives.”

Adults and families who are interested in learning more about adoption were invited to this free informational event. They talked with social workers about the adoption process and heard from experienced adoptive families about their stories. Guests also met some children and youth in state care in an informal setting including fun games and activities.

"Events like The Adoption Option are one of the most impactful ways we can bring families and waiting children together," said MARE’s Executive Director, Bridget Chiaruttini. "Our longstanding partnership with Jordan’s Furniture allows us to directly engage families in the matching process, and with the growing number of children in need of permanent homes, it's more important than ever to inspire families to take that life-changing step toward adoption."

As a direct result of Jordan’s partnership over the past 24 years in the foster care adoption community, over 544 children have been placed into adoptive homes through a variety of supported programs and initiatives.

In Massachusetts, over 3,108 children currently in foster care have the goal of adoption, and more than 2,460 of those children have no relative or other potential adopter. Nationwide, there are over 117,000 children in foster care in need of adoption. Older, school-aged children, sibling groups, youth who identify as LGBTQ+, children of color and/or children with special needs tend to wait the longest for families.

Prospective adoptive parents can be almost any age (18+); single, partnered, married, LGBT; homeowners or renters; experienced parents or new to parenting. Families of various income levels can adopt, as long as they have a stable source of income to support a child. There are no fees to adopt a child from foster care. Financial subsidies may be available, and children adopted from foster care are eligible for a tuition-waiver at Massachusetts state colleges and universities.

Each of the 1,000 bicycles, put together by Jordan’s Furniture staff by hand leading up to the event, featured personalized name plates for each recipient.

The more than 3,000 guests attended the event at Bayside Parking Area at UMass Boston enjoyed food from Wahlburgers and entertainment from DJ Master Millions, Recycled Percussion from the hit show America’s Got Talent, and Phunk Phenomenon. Those in attendance also heard from Tatelman, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, and Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston Nicholas President and CEO Robert Lewis Jr. about how the donation fosters healthy youth development and physical wellness throughout the City of Boston.

“Every kid deserves the freedom of a new bike,” said Eliot Tatelman, President, Jordan’s Furniture. “They can ride to school, to the store, to a friend’s house. However, not everyone can afford one.”

“I can’t think of a better way for our young people to start the summer than receiving a new bicycle and enjoying a beautiful day filled with music, dancing and delicious food with family and friends,” said Robert Lewis, Jr., Nicholas President and CEO, Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston. “Big thanks to Eliot and Jordan’s Furniture for reinforcing to our members that they are an important part of our city’s future.”

  • Jordan’s Furniture donates to the Red Sox Foundation

Jordan’s Furniture donates over 60 boxes of youth baseball equipment to the Red Sox Foundation! Delivery to Fenway Park for inner-city league

Jordan’s Furniture’s donated over 60 boxes of youth baseball equipment from their Double Play Youth Baseball Program just in time for the Red Sox Foundation’s RBI League to kick-off this year’s season.

The Jordan’s donation program is a project that supplies like-new baseball and softball equipment to youth in underserved communities. In partnership with the Red Sox Foundation’s Reviving Baseball and Softball in Inner-Cities (RBI) Program, equipment was distributed to help the Foundation in its mission of growing the game and making the sport more accessible for players and coaches in its communities.

Like-new youth baseball equipment was collected at all Jordan’s Furniture locations for 2 months in MA, RI, NH, ME, and CT, including their Taunton Distribution Center.

“We have been running our youth baseball donation program for over 12 years now because we know that the equipment gets directly in the hands of kids who need it. And the need does not end at the close of each season,” said Eliot Tatelman, President of Jordan’s Furniture. “Equipment is so expensive and there are thousands of kids who just cannot afford to play sports.

Bekah Salwasser, Boston Red Sox Executive Vice President of Social Impact and Red Sox Foundation Executive Director said, “We are so proud to partner with Jordan’s Furniture again as we seek to grow the game and expand access, so every youth has the opportunity to play ball.” Salwasser continues “Access to equipment is often a barrier for young people and their families, so we couldn’t be more grateful to everyone in Red Sox Nation who comes together to support this program and our shared mission.”

The equipment delivery was made to Fenway Park on Saturday May 18, 2024 and was distributed to young players throughout the community. Other community partners include the New Haven YMCA Youth Center and the South Portland Little League.

  • 15th Annual WalkRun for Adoption

Jordan's Furniture Hosts the 15th Annual WalkRun for Adoption Raises over $95,000 for foster care adoption

Taunton, MA - Jordan’s Furniture proudly hosted the 15th Annual WalkRun for Adoption on Sunday, May 19, from 10am to 1pm at their Taunton location. The event raised over $95,000 for the programs of the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) that support foster care adoption.

"Our WalkRun for Adoption is not just a fundraising event but it is also a celebration of the foster care adoption community”, said Eliot Tatelman, President of Jordan’s Furniture. “All of these families who attend the event have a commonality that brings them together to celebrate the cause. For over 22 years, Jordan’s has rallied around these children and teens, showing them that they are special and that we are committed to finding them loving, permanent homes,” concludes Tatelman.

Over 400 runners and walkers participated in the Jordan's Furniture 5K WalkRun to raise awareness and funds for foster care adoption in Massachusetts. From adoptive families to social workers and community members, the event was open to the public and it included activities, music, food, games, and family-friendly fun.

All the funds raised from this event benefit the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE), a nonprofit organization dedicated to finding adoptive homes for children and youth in foster care. "By joining forces with Jordan's Furniture, we are able to raise awareness and resources to support our mission of finding permanent homes for these children. Together, we are sending a resounding message that every child deserves a loving family and a place to call home," emphasized Bridget Chiaruttini, Executive Director of MARE. “Since the first WalkRun for Adoption 15 years ago, together we have found homes for over 3,400 children and teens who would have otherwise left foster care alone.”

MARE's comprehensive programs encompass a range of impactful initiatives, such as the widely recognized TV segment Wednesday's Child, engaging children's profiles featured in newspapers statewide, the compelling Heart Gallery portrait exhibit showcasing waiting children, inclusive Adoption Meet & Greets, and specialized recruitment efforts for children with medical needs, teenagers, LGBTQ+ youth, and children of color. With an inspiring track record spanning 66 years, MARE has successfully matched over 7,000 children with their loving and permanent adoptive homes. Currently, 1,160 local children and teens are growing up in foster care while waiting to find an adoptive family.

  • Adoption Meet and Greet 2024

Jordan’s Furniture hosts 2024 Adoption Meet & Greet for children in foster care

(Reading, MA) –There are over 1,100 children in Massachusetts who are waiting for adoption right now. To help children in state care meet families that are ready to parent, Jordan’s Furniture hosted a special adoption event on Sunday, March 17, 2024 from 8:30 - 11:00 am, at Jordan’s Furniture, 50 Walker’s Brook Dr., Reading, MA. This event was invitation only.

Jordan’s Furniture hosted this event in collaboration with the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) and the Massachusetts Department of Children & Families (DCF) to help find permanent families for children in state foster care. Prospective adoptive parents who have been through the approval process and are licensed met waiting children. Licensed families had the opportunity to meet with social workers in a casual atmosphere.

“We continually look for ways to encourage interaction between children and adults at our adoption events”, says Eliot Tatelman, President of Jordan’s Furniture. “After all, that is why the concept of adoption events work … people interacting with each other, getting to know one another, making new friends.” Tatelman continues, “We have a fun, family-friendly store in Reading with a ropes course and a water show, plus we add activities and attractions like arts & crafts, stilt walking, face painting and balloon artistry. It becomes the perfect environment for both kids and adults to enjoy some quality time together.” Eliot continues, “From previous adoption events that we have hosted, it has proven to be very successful in making matches and ultimately creating families! We are so proud to continue our support of the adoption and foster care communities because we see so many positive outcomes from our efforts,” Tatelman concludes.

The private event was open to families currently involved in Massachusetts Approach to Partnerships in Parenting (MAPP) training or in the final stages of the homestudy process. Families had the opportunity to speak with social workers, learn from experienced adoptive parents and meet waiting children and sibling groups, in a fun and interactive environment.

“Children and teens need the stability and loving support a permanent family provides. Every child deserves a permanent family”, says Bridget Chiaruttini, Executive Director of MARE. “We are proud to continue our partnership with Jordan’s Furniture. Events like this one are a great way to build connections that result in adoptive matches for the youth and families that we serve”, she concludes.

In partnership with the Red Sox Foundation’s Reviving Baseball and Softball in Inner-Cities (RBI) Program, equipment will be distributed to help the Foundation in its mission of growing the game and making the sport more accessible for players and coaches in its communities.

Starting February 5 and running through April 7, equipment donations can be dropped off at any Jordan’s Furniture location in MA, RI, NH, ME, and CT, including their Taunton Distribution Center. All donations must be in like-new, clean condition. Equipment includes cleats (metal and plastic), baseballs (new), softballs (new), bats (metal only), catcher’s equipment, and gloves.

We are excited to, again, team up with the Red Sox Foundation…the perfect partner!”

“We are so proud to partner with Jordan’s Furniture as we seek to grow the game and expand access, so every youth has the opportunity to play ball,” said Bekah Salwasser, Boston Red Sox Executive Vice President of Social Impact and Red Sox Foundation Executive Director. “Access to equipment is often a barrier for young people and their families, so we couldn’t be more grateful to everyone in Red Sox Nation who comes together to support this program and our shared mission.”

Through other distribution partners in all Jordan’s communities, the Double Play Youth Baseball Program will support children and youth in underserved neighborhoods.

The 2024 Double Play Youth Baseball Donation Program runs through April 7th. All information can be found online at Jordans.com and at www.redsoxfoundation.org

High school prom is back and bigger than ever! High school teens throughout the region start shopping for the perfect prom dress every Spring. As one of New England’s largest prom dress drives, Belle of the Ball ensures that any high school teen who needs a prom dress can have one. For youth and their families who are struggling to put food on the table, prom dress shopping is difficult if not impossible, and Caring Partners Inc, the organization that oversees the program, is ready to lend support for the 20th year. Gently-used prom dresses can be donated at any Jordan’s Furniture, Enterprise Bank, or Anton’s Cleaners location from February 5th through March 31st, 2024.

The annual “Belle of the Ball” prom dress drive culminates in an invitation-only Boutique Day, when thousands of qualified high school juniors and seniors come together to choose the perfect prom dress. All dresses and shoes, jewelry, and more are free of charge to qualified students through the generosity of donors, sponsors and volunteers… all working toward the Caring Partners’ mission: any youth who needs a prom dress will have one.

Dresses are also distributed through local social service programs in all of Jordan’s communities.

Thanks to our generous corporate partners, dress donors and volunteers, we celebrate 20 years supporting these incredible young women to feel beautiful inside and out.”

Enterprise Bank CEO Jack Clancy, banks on his supportive team to put the company mission into action each year. According to Clancy, “Attending the prom is an exciting event in a young person's life, but it can be expensive and a financial burden. Our Enterprise Bank family is proud to make a positive difference in the lives of these teens right here, in the communities we serve.”

Over the years, participants have shared prom dress photos and written to the program with transformative stories, describing the impact Belle of the Ball has had on them, primarily in the positive change they felt about themselves. Times are challenging for marginalized and underserved communities. Many families are having difficulty paying bills and putting food on the table. So, Jordan’s partnered with eight (8) Head Start programs within the communities where their stores are located. They worked directly with the teachers and staff to provide holiday gifts for their young students.

“Thank you doesn’t seem enough to say. You have left me speechless and smiling!” said one Head Start teacher after receiving the gift donation.

The 12,000-square-foot Enchanted Village attraction includes dozens of mechanized figurines and animals in a traditional New England holiday scene. Originally displayed at the Jordan Marsh department store, the Enchanted Village hadn't been open to the public since 2006 until Jordan’s Furniture re-launched the fully restored display in 2009 and added to the experience with new attractions.

The Jordan’s Head Start Holiday Program has been in existence since 2011 and has provided over 6,000 wrapped presents to area children. Head Start is a national program that promotes school readiness in young children from low-income families. They help preschoolers develop the early reading and math skills needed to succeed in school for years to come.

(Reading, MA) – There are over 1,100 children in Massachusetts who are waiting for adoption right now. To learn more, Jordan’s Furniture hosted “The Adoption Option” on Sunday, October 1 from 8:30am to 11:00 am at their Reading store. Jordan’s Furniture hosted the Adoption Option in collaboration with the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) and the Massachusetts Department of Children & Families (DCF) to help find permanent families for children in state foster care.

Adults and families interested in learning more about adoption were invited to this free, informational event. They learned about the adoption process and heard from experienced adoptive families. Guests also met some children and youth in state care in an informal, fun-filled setting including games and activities.

“Among all of the ways in which we educate and connect families to waiting children and teens, events such as The Adoption Option provide families with the most opportunity to invest directly in the matching process”, said MARE’s Executive Director Bridget Chiaruttini. “We are grateful to continue our multi-decade partnership with Jordan’s Furniture to find adoptive homes. With more kids than ever waiting for permanent families, it is crucial that we find more families willing to make this life-changing commitment.”

Event to celebrate foster care adoption

Taunton, MA – During 2023’s Foster Care Awareness Month in May, Jordan's Furniture President, Eliot Tatelman, was at the forefront to secure a permanent home for every child in state care. Recognizing the growing urgency for adoptive families, Jordan’s hosted the 14th Annual WalkRun for Adoption on Sunday, May 21 at their Taunton location. Over $75,000 was raised that will directly support children, youth, and sibling groups in foster care who are seeking a permanent, adoptive home.

"Our WalkRun for Adoption is not just an event but it’s a celebration of the foster care adoption community”, said Tatelman. “These families all have a commonality that brings them together to celebrate the cause. For over 20 years, Jordan’s has rallied around these children and teens, showing them that they are special and that we are committed to finding them loving, permanent homes,” concludes Tatelman.

Over 350 runners and walkers participated in the Jordan's Furniture 5K WalkRun to raise awareness and funds for foster care adoption in Massachusetts. From adoptive families to social workers and community members, the event was open to anyone and included activities, music, food, games, and family-friendly fun. All the funds raised from this event will benefit the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE), a nonprofit organization dedicated to finding adoptive homes for children and youth in foster care. "By joining forces with Jordan's Furniture, we are able to raise awareness and resources to support our mission of finding permanent homes for these children. Together, we are sending a resounding message that every child deserves a loving family and a place to call home," emphasized Bridget Chiaruttini, executive director of MARE.

MARE's comprehensive programs encompass a range of impactful initiatives, such as the widely recognized TV segment Wednesday's Child, engaging children's profiles featured in newspapers statewide, the compelling Heart Gallery portrait exhibit showcasing waiting children, inclusive Adoption Meet & Greets, and specialized recruitment efforts for children with medical needs, teenagers, LGBTQ+ youth, and children of color. (Reading, MA) –To help find permanent homes for children in state care, Jordan’s Furniture hosted a special adoption event on Sunday, March 26 from 8:30 - 11:00 am at their Reading, MA store. The event was invitation only. Over 500 guests attended, including waiting children, licensed families, and social workers.

“It was such a positive event with great energy”, says Eliot Tatelman, President of Jordan’s Furniture. “We provided lots of activities to encourage interaction between children and adults.

Families had the opportunity to speak with social workers and meet waiting children and sibling groups.

“Children and teens need the stability and loving support a permanent family provides. Every child deserves a permanent family”, says Bridget Chiaruttini, Executive Director of MARE. “We are proud to continue our partnership with Jordan’s Furniture. Events like this one are a great way to promote fun interaction, and, hopefully, result in adoptive matches for the youth and families that we serve”.

  • Jordan's Adoption Excellence Award

Jordan’s Furniture selected for national 2022 Adoption Excellence Award from Dept of Health & Human Services in Washington DC

Taunton, MA – Jordan’s Furniture was nominated and selected to receive a 2022 Adoption Excellence Award in the category of “Business Contributions” for the company’s contributions to the foster care adoption community. Linda Spears, Commissioner of the MA Department of Children & Families (DCF), nominated the company. She has worked closely with Jordan’s President Eliot Tatelman on the contributions they’ve made to advance the importance of permanency for children and youth in foster care. Jordan’s was selected as one of ten (10) national recipients from the US Department of Health & Human Services in Washington DC.

“We are unbelievably proud, honored, and humbled to receive this award”, said Jordan’s President Eliot Tatelman. “Through our partnerships with groups like DCF and MARE, we have coordinated many programs and events to help to find loving homes for kids in foster care, resulting in over 530 placements during our 22-year commitment to the cause.” He concludes, “As a company, we have done some memorable things over the years. However, our work in the adoption community is what I am most proud of. We appreciate the award.”

The US Department of Health & Humans Services established the Adoption Excellence Awards in 1997 to recognize the outstanding accomplishments in achieving permanency for children waiting in foster care. The awards honor agencies, organizations, businesses, individuals, courts, families, and courts. Jordan’s nomination came from the MA Department of Children & Families.

“Everyone in Massachusetts knows Jordan’s Furniture and Eliot but, to us, they are so much more than a brand or a name,” DCF Commissioner Spears said. “Eliot believes in his heart that every child deserves to have a permanent family and takes action. You’ll see Eliot at planning meetings, talking recruitment strategies with DCF staff or chatting with children and prospective adoptive parents at the many adoption events at his stores. A 22-year partnership like ours is rare and we are deeply grateful for the opportunity to honor Eliot and his staff for their unwavering commitment to finding families for our kids.”

The award recipients were recently announced nationally at an event in Washington DC, as part of the National Adoption Month celebrations.

  • Jordan’s Furniture Hosts “The Adoption Option” to Find Adoptive Homes for Children in Foster Care

(Reading, MA) – Over 550 guests attended the 2022 “The Adoption Option” on Sunday morning, October 2, hosted by Jordan’s Furniture at their Reading store.

Jordan’s Furniture coordinated the event in collaboration with the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) and the Massachusetts Department of Children & Families (DCF) to help find permanent families for children in state foster care.

Adults and families interested in learning more about adoption were invited to this free informational event. They talked with social workers about the adoption process and heard from experienced adoptive families about their stories. Guests also met some children and youth in state care in an informal setting, including fun games and activities.

"Among all of the ways in which we educate and connect families to waiting children and teens, events such as The Adoption Option provide families with the most opportunity to invest directly in the matching process”, said MARE’s Executive Director Bridget Chiaruttini. “We are grateful to continue our multi-decade partnership with Jordan’s Furniture to find adoptive homes. With more kids than ever waiting for permanent families, it is crucial that we find more families willing to make this life-changing commitment.”

As a direct result of Jordan’s partnership over the past 22 years in the foster care adoption community, over 530 children have been placed into adoptive homes through a variety of supported programs and initiatives.

In Massachusetts, over 3,200 children currently in foster care have the goal of adoption, and more than 1,700 of those children have no relative or other potential adopter. Nationwide, there are over 115,000 children in foster care in need of adoption. Older, school-aged children, sibling groups, children of color and/or children with special needs tend to wait the longest for families.

MARE is a private, non-profit organization, founded in 1957 to find adoptive homes for children and teens in foster care, including sibling groups and children who are traditionally harder to place. Older, school-aged children, sibling groups, children of color LGBTQ+ youth and/or children with special needs tend to wait the longest for families.

MARE’s Executive Director, Bridget Chiaruttini, shared, “We simply cannot do this important work alone. We count on the generosity and resources from community members to help us in our mission to find adoptive homes for youth from foster care.” She went on to say, “While raising funds is important, that isn’t the only goal of the day… it’s also about celebrating the adoption community and acknowledging the joy that children bring to a family. I am so pleased to see many of the same families return every year, continuing to gather together and experience the joy and camaraderie of their shared experience.”

  • Jordan’s Furniture honors graduates in foster care at Reading MA store

    SPECIAL GUEST – GOVERNOR BAKER

Reading, MA – On Sunday evening, May 1, 2022, Jordan’s Furniture celebrated youth in foster care who are graduates from the Class of 2022. Special guests included the Governor Baker, DCF Commissioner Linda Spears, and Jordan’s Furniture President Eliot Tatelman.

The statewide event took place at the Jordan’s store in Reading, MA. It honored over 200 youth in foster care who are graduating high school, earning a GED, or receiving a degree. The celebration included food, activities, and an awards program that acknowledged the academic achievements of the graduates. Eliot Tatelman and Jordan's Furniture have been sponsoring this achievement celebration for foster youth since 2002. The guests at the Sunday evening event included graduates, their foster parents, siblings, and social workers who gathered to celebrate their academic achievements. “This is our 18th year hosting this special event. Each year, it gets bigger and bigger”, says Tatelman. “We are thrilled to continue the tradition. It is important to acknowledge the academic achievements of these great kids, many who have made it through some adverse conditions”, he says. “It is our way to show our support for them. And with Governor Baker here, too, it shows just how important these young folks are to the Commonwealth.”

“Whatever is next for our young people, whether it is a job or a degree, the power of education has put their life goals in reach. The Department is so proud of them”, says DCF Commissioner Linda Spears. “We are deeply grateful to Jordan’s Furniture and Eliot who, year after year, makes it possible for us to celebrate the accomplishment of our graduates in such an amazing way.”

  • Jordan’s Furniture hosts Adoption Meet & Greet for children in foster care and prospective families

(Reading, MA) –There are over 1,700 children in Massachusetts who are waiting for adoption right now. To help children in state care meet families that are ready to parent, Jordan’s Furniture is hosting a special adoption event this Sunday, April 10 from 8:30 - 11:00 am, at Jordan’s Furniture, 50 Walker’s Brook Dr., Reading, MA. This event is by invitation only.

Jordan’s Furniture hosts this event in collaboration with the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) and the Massachusetts Department of Children & Families (DCF) to help find permanent families for children in state foster care. Prospective adoptive parents who have been through the approval process and are licensed will be able to meet waiting children. Licensed families will have an opportunity to meet with social workers in a casual atmosphere.

“We continually look for ways to encourage interaction between children and adults at our adoption events”, says Eliot Tatelman, President and CEO of Jordan’s Furniture.

The private event is open to families currently involved in Massachusetts Approach to Partnerships in Parenting (MAPP) training or in the final stages of the homestudy process. Families will have the opportunity to speak with social workers and meet waiting children and sibling groups, in a fun and interactive environment.

“Children and teens need the stability and loving support a permanent family provides. Every child deserves a permanent family”, says Bridget Chiaruttini, Executive Director of MARE. “We are proud to continue our partnership with Jordan’s Furniture. Events like this one are a great way to promote fun interaction, and, hopefully, result in adoptive matches for the youth and families that we serve”, she concludes.

In Massachusetts, 2,400 children currently reside in foster care and have the goal of adoption, and more than 700 of those children have no relative or other potential adopter. Teens, sibling groups, children of color, youth who identify as LGBTQ+, and/or children with special needs tend to wait the longest for families.

  • Over 7,500 winter coats collected at Jordan's Furniture for area families

Jordan’s sponsors program to help local communities

Although 2021 was another year when everyone dealt with the pandemic, Jordan’s customers came out strong to support local families in-need! For the 17th year in a row, Jordan’s Furniture was one of the primary sponsors of Coats For Kids & Families, a program run by Caring Partners, Inc. that provides warm winter coats for both children and adults. Collection drives took place at all Jordan’s locations from October through December. Jordan’s promoted it on their social media channels, with email blasts and through broadcast public service announcements. The result was over 7,500 warm coats, professionally cleaned by Antons Cleaners, that were donated to families in-need within the local communities via social service agencies.

“Times are so tough right now for most people, due to Covid, but especially for families that are in difficult situations anyway,” said Eliot Tatelman, President of Jordan’s Furniture. “It was a no-brainer to participate in Coats For Kids & Families again, a wonderful program run by Antons Cleaners, who so generously cleans every single coat free of charge. And our customers stepped up to the plate! They donated thousands of coats and we are so thankful for their generosity.”, Tatelman concluded.

In addition to being a collection site for the donated coats, Jordan’s Furniture also provided the grand prizes in the Coats For Kids School Rewards Program, a part of the initiative that encourages students to get involved with collection drives at their schools. The financial prizes that Jordan’s provided to the schools went to their After-School Programs and/or their Sports Programs.

The mission of Coats for Kids is simple … anyone who needs a coat will have one. Since the program’s conception by Antons in 1995, over one million coats have been collected and distributed. Coats For Kids is a Caring Partners program and is sponsored by Jordan’s Furniture, Antons Cleaners, and Enterprise Bank.

  • Jordan's 2021 Head Start Holiday Gift Program Over 600 children receive gifts from the J-Team

The holiday season is a time of year when most people think about exchanging gifts with the loved ones. However, there are thousands of children every year who do not receive gifts, due to financial hardships. So, Jordan’s created the Head Start Holiday Gift Program over 10 years ago to help kids in marginalized communities who do not always find holiday gifts under the Christmas tree. All donated gifts are courtesy of the Jordan’s employees. The company partners with eight (8) Head Start programs in the neighborhoods where the stores operate and deliver wrapped presents in time for the Christmas morning. This year, over 600 gifts were provided to the schools.

“It’s all about family at this time of year”, says Eliot Tatelman, President of Jordan’s Furniture. “But right in our backyard, there are so many kids that simply do not wake up to presents on Christmas morning, so we wanted to help. Jordan’s has an awesome team of employees who help make the holidays brighter every year by purchasing specific gifts for specific children in the local Head Start Programs. Our Jordan’s family helps to spread holiday cheer to other families throughout our communities!”

The wrapped gifts were delivered to each school by Jordan’s drivers the week before the holiday, so that teachers could distribute them to parents or guardians of the young students, so that there were gifts under the tree on Christmas morning. Thank you to the members of the fabulous J-Team who participated in the program. They helped to make the holidays brighter for many in-need children throughout New England.

In celebration of the 2021 National Adoption Day, hundreds of adoptive families came together for a private event at Jordan’s Enchanted Village in Avon. This private, invitation-only event took place on Sunday morning November 21, before the store opened to the public. “We are so happy to be able to celebrate foster care adoption and to welcome these wonderful families to our holiday attraction again this year,” said Jordan’s Furniture President Eliot Tatelman. “We have been a strong advocate of finding permanent homes for children and youth in state care for a very long time. And now we see all of these success stories … all of these happy families. It make all of the time and effort well worth it! It is a great way to usher in the holiday season, since there is nothing more important than family.”

  • The ENCHANTED VILLAGE at Jordan's Furniture opens TODAY in Avon NEW THIS YEAR ... THE TUBE

Avon, MA - The Enchanted Village will open to the public today at Jordan’s Furniture in Avon. The display at Jordan’s has always been so much more than the iconic, historic attraction that revelers remember from years past with additions like Enchanted Ice (a 4,000 square-foot indoor skating rink), photos with Santa Claus, Polar Express 4D The Ride, the Holiday Laser LITE show and The Reindeer Arcade Game, along with the original Jordan Marsh blueberry muffins. And brand new this year : THE TUBE … an indoor mountain that both adults and kids can slide down on a deluxe inner tube!

In 2009, the Enchanted Village went from Jordan Marsh to its new home of Jordan’s Furniture in Avon when Jordan’s President Eliot Tatelman bought it at auction. And now 12 years later, Tatelman still wants families to experience the magic in the high-energy environment that includes activities for everyone. “It has been great to see generations of families visiting us during the holiday season. They spend hours touring the Village, visiting Santa, seeing Polar Express, experiencing our laser LITE show, and skating indoors. And now they can have a blast together sliding down The Tube! We’re a furniture store…but so much more during the holiday season!”

At the Enchanted Village, the public will see the animated figurines and yuletide scenes that are remembered from the many years at Jordan Marsh in Downtown Crossing. However, the display has been fully refurbished and Jordan-ized and it now includes indoor snow storms.

In addition to the historic Enchanted Village, revelers can also enjoy The Tube slide, Enchanted Ice indoor skating rink, Polar Express 4D The Ride, the holiday laser LITE show, the Reindeer Arcade Game, and photos with Santa Claus. Guests can also purchase the original Jordan Marsh blueberry muffins.

The Enchanted Village at Jordan’s Furniture in Avon will be open to the public starting today until Sunday January 2, 2022. For hours, prices, details and directions, visit jordans.com. Tickets for all attractions are available online.

  • Big turnout for Jordan's 2021 Adoption Meet & Greet at their Reading store!

Reading, MA – during an early October Sunday morning, hundreds of guests gathered at the Jordan’s Furniture in Reading MA for the chance to talk to social workers about foster care adoption and for the chance to meet children and youth living in state care. It was the Fall Adoption Meet & Greet on Sunday October 17, 2021 … an invitation-only “matching event” for pre-adoptive families to potentially meet their future son or daughter. It provided the opportunity to not simply hear about foster care adoption but to actually begin to create a bond with a possible “match”. These type of face-to-face events have proven to be highly effective in creating families. It was hosted by Jordan’s Furniture and was in partnership with the Massachusetts Research Exchange (MARE) and the Department of Children & Families (DCF). All activities were socially distant and all guests and staff were required to wear masks. Although Jordan’s has been running adoption events for over 20 years, the Adoption Meet & Greet was the first one in almost 2 years, due to Covid.

“In this age of technology and video, it is so important to run events where families and kids can experience “face time” together”, says Eliot Tatelman, President of Jordan’s Furniture. “To make the decision to adopt from foster care is very emotional and it requires time. It requires time for the families and the children to get to know each other. And that is why we run these types of events.” He continues “To literally watch the interaction and the communication take place is truly special. We are so proud to be a part of the process.”

Over 400 guests were at the Jordan’s Reading store during this private event that took place before the store opened to the public. The guests included social workers, families trained in foster care adoption, and children in state care. There were also many fun activities throughout the store that encouraged families and kids to play together. Both MARE and DCF will track to “matches” from this event, in the hopes that they lead to adoption legalizations.

Jordan’s Furniture has been a partner with MARE for 21 years, embarking on countless initiatives and events to help find permanent adoption homes for children, youth, and sibling groups in state care. For more information about foster care adoption, visit MAREInc.org.

  • Jordan's concludes their 2021 Cradles To Crayons collection drive for the "Reading For Learning" program

More than 2 truckloads of donations delivered to the Giving Factory … helping over 2400 kids!

Jordan’s Furniture continued their partnership into the 9th year with Cradles To Crayons through a company-wide collection drive for their “Ready For Learning” Program. New and like-new children’s clothing (shirts, pants, sweaters, sweatshirts, and jackets) for infants to 12 years old were collected at all stores and in the Jordan’s Taunton Distribution Center from June through August. “Ready For Learning” is a school preparedness program, which provides low-income and homeless children with the essential back-to-school supplies and clothing needed to start the year prepared and excited to learn. The Cradles to Crayons/Jordan’s Furniture partnership, now in its ninth year, has supported more than 19,000 children to date and expects to pass the 20,000 mark this year.

“We are so proud to continue our partnership with Cradles to Crayons and to support their Ready for Learning program,” said Eliot Tatelman, Jordan’s President. “This past year has been so difficult for many, many area families, so we are happy to help ease their burden for this upcoming school year, no matter where the classrooms are located,”. Tatelman continues, “I remember my first days of school and all of the memories of each one. It is so important for every child to feel worthy. By working with the team at Cradles to Crayons, we hope to do our part in helping area children get ready for school and be prepared to learn. Through the generosity of our wonderful customers, we know that our donation drives have made an impact during the last eight years. We hope for the same success this year.”

“We sincerely thank Jordan’s Furniture for their sustained support. They continue to be an invaluable supporter of our Ready for Learning initiative and help to ensure that thousands of local children begin a new school year with the supplies and clothing they need to succeed and feel confident,” said Aubrey Conquergood, Executive Director at Cradles to Crayons Boston. “We are working to assist families in Massachusetts recovering from the current health crisis, and the efforts by Jordan’s Furniture will go a long way in helping children in need as we look ahead at the Fall.

The collection drive concluded with over two truckloads of school clothing to donate to Cradles To Crayons and their “Ready for Learning” Program! How many children will the donation impact? More than 2,400! The school clothes will be distributed to in-need families throughout Jordan’s communities via Cradles To Crayons and additional partners such as Maine Needs and CT’s New Reach, Inc. Since donations are generally low during the Summer months, Cradles To Crayons relies on Jordan’s partnership to be able to help many families get ready for the upcoming school year. Jordan’s is proud to be a loyal partner with Cradles To Crayons and to help area families.

We are excited to, again, team up with the Red Sox Foundation…the perfect partner!”

We couldn’t return to play without this equipment, and we’re proud to work alongside Jordan’s to leverage both of our platforms to inspire recovery, rebirth, and hope in the season ahead.”

The one-week collection drive raises over $166,000!

The WPLR morning team of Chaz & AJ knew that they needed to change one of their annual traditions that normally includes a live broadcast in front of hundreds of fans, musical performances, and special guest interviews. Their highly celebrated Toy Drive raises money and toys for area organizations that support children in-need. Due to Covid, however, the spectator event could not take place as usual.
