Nowadays it feels as though everything is getting “smarter.” Smart phones, smart tvs, and now smart sofas. Coming in all sizes and styles, smart sofas enable you to have all your favorite entertaining needs right at your fingertips… literally. The Features || While some smart sofas aren’t customizable, others allow you to hand-pick all the bells and whistles you’d prefer -- truly making it your own! Do you love curling up with a good ol’ fashioned book but your spouse prefers to read on the tablet? Opt for a flex light on your armrest and an adjustable tablet holder on theirs. Never worry about being near an outlet to plug in your accessories because nearly all smart sofas are equipped with USB ports. Ease your fear of spills by adding a removable snack tray and wine glass holder (yes, the wine glass finally gets its own ergonomic holder). Are you a movie buff looking for that true cinematic experience? Feel the sound by adding a wireless bass shaker. The Versatility || Thanks to the many different configurations, owning a smart sofa is possible regardless of the size of your space. All their functionality actually makes them ideal for small space dwellers! Opting for the removable tray means you can forgo a large cocktail table all together – and since they recline, you won’t need an ottoman to rest your feet either! Hidden arm storage and center console storage provides space to tuck away your tablet, remotes, and any other accessories. Your smart sofa could even double as your workspace on those days you work from home!

Though temps are still soaring into the 70s, the transition from summer to autumn begins with the official start of football season. Make your home the gathering spot for friends and family to watch the big game with deluxe seats and delicious treats! The Seating || Not all sectionals are created equal. Sure they all provide a high level of comfort, but now there are sectionals that recline, have built-in trays, and cup holders that will keep your drink hot or cold! Not enough space? Most sectionals can be configured to fit smaller spaces, but the same bells and whistles can also be found on recliners. The Nachos || This game day classic has been reimagined into a bite-sized treat exploding with flavor! Nacho Bites Ingredients 3/4 pound ground beef 1 medium onion, finely chopped 1 medium red pepper, finely chopped 1 envelope taco seasoning 1 can diced tomatoes 8 ounces pepper jack cheese, cubed 4 ounces cream cheese, softened, cubed 1 package tortilla chip scoops 2 cups shredded Mexican cheese blend Sour cream and pickled jalapeno slices   Directions In a large skillet, cook the beef, onion, and red pepper over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Europe is like that unequivocal cool kid – they don’t follow trends, they set them. While diversity in design ranges from country to country the one adjective that best describes them all is: chic. From minimalism to opulence each design evokes a sense of effortlessness that transcends the test of time. Posh Parisian || Deemed fashion capitol of the world, Paris, has mastered the art of effortless sophistication. Their evolving interior design style strikes a balance between old and new, opulence and minimalism. Vintage accents like an ornate chandelier is paired with a clean, modern sofa. Light walls offer a blank canvas for decadent texture like a velvet accent chair in royal blue or a tufted ottoman. Merry Mediterranean || Inspired by the cheerful hues of the sun, sand, and sea, Mediterranean design is as carefree as the people that inhabit the area. Capitalizing on their perpetually mild climate, Mediterranean architecture blurs the line between the outdoors and indoors; bare picture windows and sliding glass doors dominate design making dining al fresco a seamless transition. Patios are filled with cushy outdoor furniture that is as cozy as their living room set. Simply Scandinavian || Built on the Scandinavian design philosophy that less is more, minimalism is characterized by clean simplicity and functionality without compromising comfort. Clean lines like leggy, tight-back sofas are juxtaposed with rich texture like a sheepskin rug to create a crisp-meets-cozy vibe. Void of any bold primary hues, this design aesthetic was made for the lovers of all things neutral.

Upholstery Maintenance Here are some great tips for maintaining the beauty of your fabric-covered furniture. Caring for Upholstery Furniture Professional cleaning is recommended. Using the brush attachment, vacuum fabric surfaces regularly to remove debris. A lint-roller can be used as well. Use a whisk broom or soft brush on feather and down cushions; do not vacuum. Sit on the cushions, not the backs and arms of sofas, chairs, etc. Sitting on backs and arms can cause structural damage. Ottomans, recliner footrests, and the end of an opened sleep sofa are not designed to hold body weight; if sat on, these pieces can break. If a (fifth) center support leg is included with a sofa, screw it into place (the middle) to maintain the structural integrity of the frame. Often, the center support leg is suspended ½" above the floor, making contact with the floor as weight is applied to the sofa. Maintain screw-in legs by tightening when needed. Do not over-tighten! Move upholstery furniture by lifting it. Dragging or pushing furniture can damage furniture and floors. To reduce the movement of upholstery and sectional pieces on hardwood floors, place furniture cups with rubber bottoms under the legs. Cleaning codes are used as a guide when having upholstery professionally cleaned. Please click the link below for more information on cleaning codes: Click here for more information on Stain Removal and Fabric Cleaning Products. For more information on how to care and clean your Sunbrella Fabric, please click here. Cushion Care and ExpectationsNew seat cushions can feel 'firmer.' To accelerate the softening process, carefully walk barefoot on the cushions on a hardwood floor. In time, as they are used, cushions will soften, and can become compressed. Regular flipping and rotating the seat cushions will help maintain their appearance, plus maximize performance and comfort. Like rotating tires on a car, rotating the placement of seat cushions will extend the life of the cushions. Redistribute the fill in back cushions to help maintain the shape and improve comfort.Color Change and FadingFabrics can fade or change color when exposed to direct or indirect sunlight. Natural fabrics— cotton, linen, and silk— are most susceptible to color loss. Synthetic fabrics—polyester and acrylic—are less likely to fade. To minimize fading, avoid placing upholstery pieces in direct sunlight. Tinted window treatments can help reduce fading.Fabric PerformanceMany fabrics are prone to pilling when first exposed to friction. Pilling is the shedding of excess fibers, and is usually found in "high use" areas such as on seat cushions and seat backs. Pilling subsides in time. The use of a fabric shaver—such as the type that's used on clothing—controls pilling. Fabrics with a raised nap or smooth, shiny texture—like velvet or some chenille fabrics—often show shading. (Light and dark areas) Regular vacuuming with a brush attachment can help even-out the appearance of the fabric. Fabric can stretch. Most common in seating areas, this can result in a relaxed appearance called "puddling." Flipping and turning seat cushions regularly can help minimize puddling.Odors: That "New Sofa Smell"New upholstery furniture often has an odor. The odor is not harmful, and will dissipate in a short amount of time. Air out the room by opening doors and windows if possible to reduce the smell of the new furniture. Using dryer sheets, or coffee grinds in an open container, near the furniture can help neutralize any odors.Washable Slipcover CareBefore washing, contact our Customer Service Department (1-866-8-Jordans) for help. If your fabric is washable, click on the link for step-by-step laundering instructions: Slipcover care handout Non-washable slipcovers, or for customers who choose not to wash their slipcovers, should be cleaned by an upholstery cleaner in the home, on the frame.
Leather Maintenance Try these tips for extending the life of your leather-upholstered furniture. Caring for Leather Furniture Cleaning and conditioning leather using the Peace of Mind leather products helps keep surfaces clean, soft and supple. It is recommended to clean and condition leather four times a year, more often in dry and/or sunny rooms, homes with pets and high-use rooms. Bonded leather and bi-cast leather do not need to be maintained using cleaning and protection products. Avoid allowing caustic substances to come in contact with leather furniture. Some examples of caustic substances would be chlorine from swimming pools, salts, ammonia, bleach, hair products, and animal flea and tick treatments. Leather surfaces can stretch over time, resulting in a relaxed appearance on seat cushions and the backs of seating surfaces. Move leather furniture by lifting it. Dragging or pushing furniture can damage furniture and floors. To reduce the movement of upholstery and sectional pieces on hardwood floors, place furniture cups with rubber bottoms under the legs. Cushion Care and Expectations New seat cushions can feel 'firmer'. To accelerate the softening process, carefully walk barefoot on the cushions on a hardwood floor. In time, as they are used, cushions will soften, and can become compressed. Regular flipping and rotating the seat cushions will help maintain their appearance, plus maximize performance and comfort. Like rotating tires on a car, rotating the placement of seat cushions will extend the life of the cushions. Redistribute the fill in back cushions to help maintain the shape and improve comfort. Understanding and Maintaining the Appearance of Leather As leather is a natural product, differences in color, texture and unique characteristics are to be expected. Scarring, insect bites and wrinkles can be visible on all leather furniture. Cleaning and conditioning leather using the Peace of Mind leather products helps keep surfaces clean, soft and supple. The Peace of Mind conditioner, when used in tandem with the cleaner, re-moisturizes surfaces and helps keep them looking their best. It is recommended to clean and condition leather four times a year, more often in dry and/or sunny rooms, homes with pets, and high-use rooms. Leather is not stain-proof. Quickly blotting spills from leather surfaces helps prevent stains from setting. Care should be taken to avoid caustic substances from coming in contact with leather furniture. Caustic substances can cause fading, cracking, peeling and discoloration. Some examples of caustic substances would be chlorine from swimming pools, salts, ammonia, bleach, hair products, and animal flea and tick treatments. Body and hair oil from people and pets can discolor and stain leather. Hand cream, hair styling products can be absorbed by leather surfaces, resulting in a stain. Regular cleaning and conditioning with the Peace of Mind products can reduce damage from surface spills, body and hair oil, and cosmetic creams and lotions. Odors: That "Leather Smell" New leather furniture often has a unique odor. A variety of oils and waxes are used in processing leather that adds to the "leather smell". The odor is not harmful, and will dissipate in a short amount of time. Air out the room by opening doors and windows if possible to reduce the smell of the new furniture. Using dryer sheets, or coffee grinds in an open container, near the furniture can help neutralize any odors. Pets and Leather Furniture: Maintenance is Key! Regular cleaning and conditioning with the Peace of Mind leather care products is especially important in homes with pets.  Please keep in mind that damage caused by pets is not covered by either the manufacturer or the Uniter's warranties. Without care, animal skin and hair oil can roughen and discolor leather surfaces. Regular use of the Peace of Mind leather products will help maintain the appearance of leather. If pets are allowed to lie on leather surfaces, quickly wiping the cushions with a damp (not wet!) cloth can help remove caustic oils. Unfortunately, some cats will claw leather furniture, just as they claw fabric furniture. Cats can be attracted by the smell of the oils used in leather furniture production. Cats can puncture leather with claws as they jump off, leaving small holes in the surface.
From Pantone to Sherwin Williams to Behr the color curators have chosen what they anticipate to be the most popular hues for 2018. Ranging from deep and saturated to muted and serene there is certainly a color for every design aesthetic… Pantone: Ultra Violet || The most talked about color reveal of the year might be a tad too cosmic for your walls, but this invigorating hue can be great in small doses! Abstract artwork or an area rug are good ways to experiment with this bright color. Behr: In the Moment || This watery-gray hue evokes a calming vibe that would be great for a bedroom, a master bath, or any other room you want to turn into a tranquil sanctuary. Right at the crossroads of saturated and muted this tone works well as the neutral in the room. Sherwin Williams: Oceanside || A jewel tone that perfectly blends blues and greens to create a hue that is reminiscent of the serene coastline of your favorite beach. Whether you paint your walls with it or find a similar hue in an accent piece like a side chair or ottoman you can’t go wrong! Benjamin Moore: Caliente || This fiery red has purple undertones giving it a rich saturation that is a little more soothing to the eye than an orange-based red. Try it as an accent wall in your living room – this color really pops when paired with a cream or white sofa!   Pinterest: Sage || While Pinterest technically isn’t a color expert, it’s certainly the leading forum of inspiration for life in general and the most pinned color is sage. Step aside griege, because sage is stealing your thunder as the new neutral. Out of all the colors listed this hue has already made its debut in the form of walls, sofas, bedding, even kitchen cabinets!
Blue & White || From nautical navy and white to chinoiserie patterns, this combo always looks fresh Certain color combinations have truly stood the test of time, none more so than blue and white. When it comes to interiors – outdoors, too – blue and white always looks fresh, cool, crisp and sophisticated. From bold, poolside cabana striped draperies to richly-patterned chinoiserie vases and ginger jars, this timeless pairing works equally well in solid blocks of color or intricate patterns. It's particularly strong in cooling down summer outside settings, but for warmth and zing, add orange, pink or yellow. And, you can use blue and white in any room – think of a guest bedroom covered in French toile de jouy (twal-duh-zhwee) fabric, the aforementioned chinoiserie vases scattered around a living room, or a serene bedroom with muted versions of blue with white for comforters, pillows, and window treatments. However you incorporate it, blue and white just feels right. However you incorporate it, blue and white just feels right. Sky-View Seats || It's not surprising…according to many surveys, America's favorite color is blue. It's almost never jarring, but calm and cool, though it does feel more energetic in saturated versions of navy, royal blue, and turquoise. And, it's readily available on upholstered furniture, from dining and accent chairs to upholstered beds, sofas and ottomans, as well as every kind of accessory. Metal or wicker outdoor furniture is often painted white, with classic navy blue cushions for an inviting summer look.   Coastal Connotations || There's nothing better than relaxing by the ocean, lake or pool. Blue sky, blue water, white sand – we're intrinsically drawn to these coastal hues because they are so prevalent in nature. And even though grey is an enduring color go-to, we don't long for a grey sky the way we do blue. You can create coastal vibes in any room using blue and white, especially if you mix in variations like cornflower, periwinkle or powder blue. Sometimes you can find many variations in one area rug that can act as a springboard for creating an oasis of calm.   Cool Accents || If you have a neutral-hued room, add some color with blue patterned pillows, and for porch, deck or patio, get them in Sunbrella weather-resistant fabrics. For dining, set a table with blue and white patterned dinnerware mixed with cobalt water goblets, plus blue and white floral table linens for a fresh look. Typically, bathrooms are white, so towels and rugs with blue in them beautifully complement white tile and porcelain. Or, try painting a light blue ceiling in a white room for a tranquil feeling every time you look up. This technique is often used to great effect on porches, where Southern tradition says a "haint blue" ceiling will ward off evil spirits.

Spring is in the air, which means summer is not far off! Now is the best time to start getting your backyard ready for epic gatherings that last until the stars fill the sky and the moon shines bright. Even those hot and humid days lead to cooler evenings – warm your outdoor space with a fire pit that is so hot its cool… Ambiance || Determine the ambiance you want to create. Do you want your fire pit to be the place guests flock to after dinner? If so, then consider a low fire pit that pairs well with outdoor sofas, poufs, and cushy chairs. Is your backyard space limited? You can still create an inviting retreat by opting for a fire pit table! Fire pit tables offer the same inviting ambiance with enough space to enjoy a delicious summer meal. There are even high-top styles that are perfect for an urban setting! Placement || Though most portable fire pits have guards and/or safety features, it is still important that you are mindful of where you place yours and how close the seating is. Be sure to leave at least 4ft between your home and your fire pit/fire pit table. Do not position it under an enclosed overhang. For low-profile fire pits, it is best to position the seating around 2ft away from the flame. If you have a fire pit table, it is okay to pull seating in since there is usually 8-10 inches of table space between you and the flame. Extras || Complete your backyard retreat with decorative elements to enhance the ambiance like string lights, outdoor plants, or a rug for an added layer of cozy! Have blankets handy too since some nights will be chillier than others. While campfires naturally fuel good conversation and laughter, games will also help to keep the party going well into the night!
From sofas to chairs to ottomans, slipcovers are a beautiful and simple way to give your room a seasonal refresh. You can get the look of brand-new furniture with that cozy broken-in feeling we all crave at the end of a long day. Swapping out the slipcover can change the entire dynamic of the piece – are you in need of neutral furniture because you just bought a bold rug? Or do you want to make a statement with your furniture? With slipcovers you’re the designer! But remember, not all slipcovers are created equal. In order to preserve the life of your slipcovers you must follow the care instructions. If it says non-washable DO NOT wash it. You will ruin the slipcover. If you can wash it then check out these tips below! Washing || Utilize a commercial-sized washer (aka head to the laundromat). The reason for this is so you can wash all components of the slipcover together so the fading (which is inevitable with washable fabrics) will remain uniform. Run the machine through an empty wash cycle first to remove any residue that may have been left behind from the last person that used it – you don’t want anything staining your beautiful slipcover! Zip all zippers closed and using a mild detergent (no bleach or bleach alternatives) wash your slipcover in cold water. Drying || For best results air drying is recommended, but if you do dry the slipcover in the commercial dryer be sure to select the NO HEAT setting and remove when still slightly damp. Wrinkles are normal. Dressing || Replace the slipcover on the frame when it’s still slightly damp; this will help relieve some of the wrinkles and contour the fabric so it reshapes properly. Rotate the seat and back cushions every 20 minutes until it’s dry to prevent water stains.

With winter fast approaching, you're likely spending more time indoors and finding ways to keep your home warm and cozy. Now is the time to drape a plush throw over your sofa, pile on some soft pillows, and curl up with a steaming hot cocoa and a good book by the fireplace. Don't have a built-in fireplace? Try an electric fireplace to create the illusion of a natural fire. It's really all about layering on comfort and setting a mood. Ambiance || There are many decorating strategies for building your unique comfort zone. Ultimately, you want it to be a peaceful, inviting sanctuary you can't wait to return to at the end of a long day. Try dark, saturated wall hues if you want the space to feel more enclosed – this works especially well in a small den or media room. Warm, natural wood tones and neutral-hued upholstery reinforce that calm, cozy ambiance. Add personal photos, artwork and antiques to make the space truly yours. Soft Fabrics || The simplest way to establish instant comfort is by layering on pillows and throws in sumptuous fabrics like velvet, chenille or faux fur. In a bedroom, try a tufted headboard for your bed, an upholstered chair or bench, and include curtains and bed skirts for added warmth. The more fabrics and textures you have in a room, the cozier it will feel. Layering higher pile rugs on your floor keeps things toasty underfoot. You can even layer throw rugs over sisal or carpeting to up the cozy factor. Lighting || One of the most important elements of any room is lighting. Think of how the inside of a rustic pine lodge or traditional Swiss chalet looks. If natural light is limited, candles, task lighting - or the previously mentioned electric fireplace - create a warm glow and raise spirits on a super cold winter day. Putting overhead lighting on dimmer switches also helps to create a cozy mood, especially in a dining room.
You’ve signed your way into adulthood by closing the deal on your first apartment. A fresh start and a blank canvas to make your own and call it home – how exciting is that?! Now it’s time to prioritize. Set a budget and make a list of the things you need, then decide on the décor you like best. Are you a modern maven or a vintage queen? Deciding which décor suits your personality will help you achieve a cohesive look when shopping for furniture. Choosing which furniture pieces to invest in at first will depend on the size of your apartment, but here are some ideas to consider… Mattress || Sounds mundane, but a great mattress will give you the ultimate beauty rest you need. It’s also a great investment because a quality mattress can last you 8-10 years, which will allow you to take it with you when you move into your first home. Make it a fun experience by choosing a stylish frame for it! If space is tight consider a frame that has built-in storage. Seating || The size of your space will dictate whether you’ll be a sofa, loveseat, or sectional. Sectionals are cumbersome so even though you may have the space to accommodate it, you also have to make sure you can get it into the apartment. A sofa or loveseat paired with a funky chair will create a cozy and stylish space. Complete the look with an upholstered ottoman so you can put your feet up! For tight spaces, put a tray on the upholstered ottoman to make it double as a coffee table. Dining || Any nook will do if you purchase the right table. Choosing a table with clean lines and a modern edge will allow you to get creative with the seating. Mix and match styles or use all upholstered chairs so they can be used in the living area too! Minimalist meets luxury is a great balance in design for your first apartment.         Now that you have the basics it’s time to decorate and personalize! Try to incorporate mirrors into your overall design. They create the illusion of a larger room while reflecting light from all angles. Storage can be a challenge, so strive to find sneaky solutions (like your bed frame or ottoman) in order to maximize your space. Lastly, bring a little of the outdoors inside with plants. Succulents and air plants are low-maintenance plants that are tiny enough to fit into a terrarium while still breathing life into your apartment!
Whether you have a sprawling backyard in the suburbs or a balcony in the city, you can create a cozy outdoor oasis to come home to every summer night… Take a Seat || Your dining set is great for enjoying dinner, but just like when you’re indoors, the party eventually moves to cozier seating. Keep the party going outside by adding plush seating like a sofa or glider. In an urban setting? Opt for a loveseat paired with a cocktail table so you can dine and relax until the stars are twinkling in the sky! Light it Up || Whether you string lights above like a canopy of stars or you have a roaring fire pit, the level of intimacy changes once the sun sets. Set the mood with low lighting and be sure to add citronella candles to the mix to keep the bugs away! The Snuggle is Real || Once that sun goes down so does the temperature -- be sure to keep cozy blankets on hand! Another way to add a little cozy to your space is with an outdoor rug and poufs. Poufs are great since they don’t take up much space, can be moved around easily, and will double as a footrest!   Veg Out || Yes, relax… but with vegetation! This is especially important for urban dwellers that are living in a concrete jungle. Create a lush setting by adding potted plants or if space is tight, a plant wall! You can even scent your space (and add fresh flavor to meals) by planting herbs like rosemary and basil.
Outdoor Living || Relax and entertain al fresco with cool seating, patio umbrellas, fire pits & more If you live in a part of the world with four distinct seasons, it feels incredibly invigorating when you first open your home to the outdoors in spring. Because the season can seem short, it's key to make your outdoor space as comfortable and inviting as possible, especially if you entertain a lot. If you happen to have a swimming pool, this will probably be the focal point of your setup. Organize your space much as you would inside, with designated seating areas, complete with area rugs – durable synthetics, or natural abaca or sisal are ideal. Sprinkle in garden stools or small tables that can be easily rearranged. For finishing touches, include hanging flower pots, large planters, and string lights to make the view even more enticing.   Furniture Must-Haves || Start with the coziest seating you can find. Depending on the size of your space, you can include a sofa, loveseat, chairs, or even a sectional. Consider how you plan to use the space. If dining al fresco is number one, invest in a table that accommodates an umbrella, and make sure the chairs include cushions. If frequent naps and reading time are on the agenda, a chaise, swivel chair or glider will feel especially welcoming, along with a convenient side table to place your beverage, snacks, and a book. When choosing fabrics for seat cushions, pillows and umbrella canopies, decide if they will receive full or partial sun exposure. Generally, acrylic fabrics such as Sunbrella are the most durable and soft, and will not fade, while spun polyester fabrics are durable, but stiffer, and more likely to fade.   Inviting Extras || A memorable outdoor soiree includes many elements. Obviously, a fun mix of family and friends is essential, but as afternoon segues to evening, certain factors make people want to linger. If it gets chilly, a fire pit can provide just the amount of warmth and ambience you need to keep the party going. If you prefer an upgrade to your old beach cooler, you can set up a portable trolley cart on casters for a "help yourself" bar. A large tray to organize accessories like napkins, cups and plates is helpful. And, if your gathering is still in full swing during evening hours, don't forget citronella candles to keep bugs at bay – except for fireflies, of course. You may want to count or chase them.   Light & Shade || There's simply no comparison to natural light. It just makes you feel more energetic. But when temperatures sizzle in midsummer, you need to shield yourself and guests a bit. This is where a great patio or deck umbrella will do wonders. As the day progresses, adjust the umbrella's angle to keep direct sunshine under control, and if you feel a sudden raindrop or get a downpour, a strong, sturdy umbrella really helps. If you're making s'mores come nightfall, hang some string lights or battery-operated lanterns to make the scene magical.
Do you ever wish you could move a table, chair or sofa yourself, without relying on your partner, neighbor or friend to help you move it? Sometimes you just want a change and feel like trying a different furniture configuration without a hassle, or you want an easy way to vacuum underneath an item. This is where casters can help. From discreet mini casters on a shiny bar cart to large, industrial cast-iron wheels on a distressed wood table, you can make rearranging furniture easy and stylish. Make it Multifunctional || Suppose you need a new cocktail table for your living room but frequently use the room's sleep sofa for visiting guests. A table with casters is the ideal solution. You just wheel it out of the way when you set up your sleep sofa. Or, if you like to entertain guests in the living room, but during the holidays, the dining room holds more people, a bar cart on casters will be the perfect multitasker. Work in a Rustic Element || If you like the vintage industrial look of rustic pieces but don't want to incorporate a total factory into your home, an accent piece on casters is a great solution. Place a multi-drawer console with casters in a home office, for example, and it will add character to your space, and work smarter by giving you more flexibility. An office chair on casters will be an asset, too, and a rich, leather upholstered one can add a warm rustic element to the room. Roll it This Way || First patented for use on furniture in the 1800s, casters were originally made of metal. Today, you'll find casters made of myriad materials, including metal, plastic, glass and rubber. In addition, there are different caster types. In general, rigid casters (like the back ones on a shopping cart) will allow you to move the item forward and backward, and swivel casters (like on many office chairs) let you move the item 360 degrees. Some items feature locking casters, which are especially important on heavier furniture for safety.

Who says most people today have shorter attention spans than goldfish? When it comes to favorite TV shows, this couldn't be further from the truth. With the advent of online streaming services comes more choices than ever for bingeing TV series and movies. Whether it's an epic fantasy, big-screen blockbuster, teen drama or vintage comedy series, your ever-expanding queue is probably as full and varied as your music library. Some of us binge watch on electronic devices, but why not make the experience more comfortable and create a viewing space complete with a cozy sofa or sectional, entertainment center, and a fully stocked bar?   Go Big & Stay Home || The main benefits of binge watching include no tickets to buy, no lines to wait in, no big heads or talkers to sit behind, and no set time to watch (fewer true cliffhangers, too). In addition, you can set an intermission time that's as long, short or frequent as you choose, and you usually don't need to go far to replenish snacks and refreshments. To ensure you always have the best seats in the house, invest in a plush recliner with room to stretch out. If you have space, make it a sectional with recliners, tilt headrests, and cup holders for your favorite beverages. Optimize Screen Size || If you watch frequently and your friends and family often join you, make sure you have an adequate entertainment center to house your flat-screen TV and accompanying accessories like DVDs, remotes and more. Make your viewing space even cozier with an electric fireplace console, which generates a warm ambiance that's especially inviting during the winter months. Treat Yourself || Dinner and a movie doesn't have to mean using up your entertainment budget for the week when you binge-watch at home. You can set up a home bar area with a classic bar cabinet or go high tech with a coffee table that functions as a mini fridge with a drawer for cold drinks, plus power outlets, USB ports and more. If you're short on space, a trolley bar cart is perfect for creating your own movable concession stand. Pass the popcorn and hit "Play."
Whether you define your style as traditional, contemporary, minimalist or "something else," it's that "something else" part that really makes your home yours. There are many ways you can augment or change a room's perspective, and two ways are by incorporating glam or rustic elements into your space. Often inspired by antiques, glam or rustic furniture pieces, when combined with the right accessories, give a room more eclectic character. It's really how you mix all the elements of a room that defines your personal style. Glam || Whether it's a mirrored nightstand, shiny metal table or whimsical accessory, these are the pieces that always look on the bright side. Metallic finishes, gilded accents, ornamental fabric trims and glossy paint surfaces can add a touch of chic opulence, especially if you contrast them with traditional pieces and rustic surfaces. And, when you include sensual curves, animal prints and intricate textures, you'll elevate the glam factor to superstar status. Rustic || On the other side of glam are rustic furniture pieces that exude an industrial, down-to-earth vibe with matte distressed finishes, knotty wood grains and straight-lined geometrics. They have an authentic lived-in look, and they're often in darker colors. Think of natural brick or stone walls, exposed ceiling beams, nailhead trim, and corrugated metal. One of the easiest ways to achieve rustic style is with a leather sofa, chair or sectional, which will just get better with age! Extras || To make your space truly eclectic, add personal items like photos, artwork, antiques collections and one-of-a-kind pieces that you've gathered from your travels. The way you mix, arrange and display these elements will reveal your true style personality – your blueprint for living your best curated life.
With a new year upon us, it's a good time to take stock of your home space. If you have a dedicated home office – whether you work from home full time or just pay bills there – it may be time to reorganize and make a fresh start. Specific items to upgrade can include your desk, chair, storage cabinets, shelving and lighting. Ultimately, you want your space to function smoothly, but also energize you to do your best work. A Place for Everything || And everything in its place. Even in the Digital Age, there never seems to be enough storage. Depending on how you want your home office to function, you need some version of drawers, shelves or cabinets to store things like receipts, paperwork and supplies. A desk with versatile drawers or cubbies can be useful, especially if you don't want your work to be immediately visible to anyone entering the room. Sometimes a minimalist desk with a small writing surface and room for a computer monitor or laptop is all you may require. Style & Comfort || You can create a hard-working home office without sacrificing style or comfort. The space should be productive and inspire you with brilliant ideas, so don't feel compelled to stick with office grey or all neutral colors. If kelly green, royal purple or citrus orange get your creative juices flowing, go for it! Make sure you have an office chair that offers adjustable support, and if space allows, include an upholstered chair or sofa for break time or to seat visitors. Finally, good lighting is essential. Include a task lamp for close work, as well as sufficient overhead lighting, especially if natural light is not abundant. Personal Touches || Personalize your home office with framed family photos, favorite books, a glass-door cabinet of curiosities, or a mood board pinned with travel images, souvenirs and stickie notes. Strategically placed plants or a vase of fresh flowers clears the air, and a bit of office humor goes a long way… posable superhero action figures are totally acceptable!
Few core items you use to decorate your home are as important as area rugs. In addition to setting the tone for your space, they need to be durable, especially in high-traffic areas, and they should tie a room's colors and style together with tireless beauty. And, if placed over hardwood floors, they offer protection, warmth and comfort underfoot. Many designers suggest creating a scheme for your room using the colors and patterns of your rug, though there are so many styles available, it's easy enough to find a rug that complements what you already have in your space. When choosing an area rug, consider other shapes besides rectangles, think of abstract designs vs. traditional patterns, and, depending on space, you can use more than one in the same room. As always, if your rug is on a hardwood floor, be sure to use a rug pad underneath to prevent slipping. Alternative Shapes || Look around your room. It's most likely square or rectangular. Much of your case furniture is probably similar in shape. So why not counteract the 90-degree angles with a rug that's oval instead of rectangular? Or, round or hexagonal? You could even go with a figural-shaped rug, maybe shaped like a surfboard or hibiscus flower if it's a tropical-themed bathroom. Since an area rug really anchors your space, you should choose one that inspires you, and that you love to look at every day. Patterns vs. Solids/Abstracts || You have endless rug choices to make your space come alive. Traditional, intricate patterns offer visual splendor, and some new rugs are designed to look like vintage antiques, which add a curated, lived-in look to your room. You should also decide if you want rich saturated colors to make a dramatic statement or softer, faded hues to calm things down. Modern abstract patterns or "almost solids" also work beautifully, especially if you want wall art or furniture to really be the stars. In bedrooms, you probably want a rug with a higher pile to keep it warm and toasty. If you're in a more temperate climate, natural fiber rugs like sisal feel and look great, both inside and outside.   Multiples in One Room || If you have a large open space, say, a living room that flows into a dining room, it usually makes sense to place one rug under your dining room furniture, and one under your living room furniture. You can use rugs to further define seating areas. For example, you might have one rug anchoring a sofa and chairs for TV watching, and a separate rug for an adjacent conversation area with chairs arranged around a cocktail table. And, rugs you place in the same room don't have to match, though they should still work with the overall colors and décor of the space to keep everything cohesive.
If the west coast had a personality type, it would undoubtedly be that of a free-spirited nomad -- thoughtfully cozy without trying too hard. Get that laid back boho-style of the west coast on any coast by incorporating a few of these design elements into your home. Color || This design style focuses on a warm color palette much like the environment it was derived from. Rich jewel tones are balanced out with muted earthy hues to create a look that visually feels like the warm embrace of a hug. Don’t be afraid to layer your colors, but be mindful of their undertones. A cool color will clash in a room of warm colors taking your look from laidback to careless. Furniture || Think texture… like a buttery-soft leather sofa in whiskey brown that is just begging to be broken in. Boho-style embraces imperfections and like a fine wine, leather furniture just gets better with age. Pair leather pieces with well-worn woods, like a reclaimed coffee table to add a little structure into the mix. Finish off the look with a rattan accent chair for an unexpected touch of whimsy. Plants || Bring the desert inside by incorporating a few cactus plants into your design! Not only are they incredibly easy to manage (only needing to be watered once a month); they also come in so many shapes and sizes that you can mix and match them! For a more Cali-cool look, try a ponytail palm. Contrary to its name, it is actually a member of the succulent family, which means it can go long periods without water making it perfect for first time plant owners. Textiles || Just like color, layer your textiles. From throws to pillows to area rugs, these elements are meant to be layered to achieve that cozy, carefree vibe. Layer a Persian area rug with a cowhide. Mix your knit pillows with embellished pillows. The one common thread of all boho homes is their ability to encourage lounging. Layering your textiles is the easiest way to evoke that come-in-and-stay-awhile vibe.
If variety is the spice of life, you won't find a more colorful and diverse design mix than in Morocco. Often recognized for its extravagantly patterned tiles and popular ottoman poufs in every gorgeous hue you can imagine, Moroccan style encompasses so much more. Drawing from its blend of African Berber, Islamic, Spanish and French cultural history, the Moroccan look offers global sophistication using hand-crafted items infused with exotic details. If you don't happen to have an authentic riad of your own, you can still create the look and feel in your home Textiles & Accents || Moroccan rugs and poufs are the most popular items in home interiors, and are readily available stateside. Moroccan rugs come in every color, size and shape, and the soft, neutral-hued ones coordinate beautifully with boho-inspired rooms. You can easily hang a group of pierced metal lanterns in a bedroom, place a carved drum table in your living room or add striped spice-tone throw pillows to your sofa. As with any space, it's all about the mix. If you use too many Moroccan style items in a room, it might look like a stage set, which is fine if that's your ultimate goal. Colors & More Colors || Typically, we think of Moroccan color palettes as consisting of warm spice tones like orange, red, saffron yellow and versions of brown, but there are many variations originating from different regions of the country. Jewel tones like sapphire, emerald and ruby are often mixed freely, and some traditional Islamic color palettes combine deep cobalt with turquoise, tan and white. In addition, many Moroccan rugs have a white or off-white ground with free-form, open geometric patterns in black or brown. Shapes & Patterns || From iconic Moorish arches and arabesque domes to hexagonal and octagonal wooden tables, Morocco is all about shapes... keyholes, fish scales, and intricate open lattice and trellis patterns are also abundant. In addition to amazing architectural shapes, many geometrics are prominent on tiles and textiles. For example, multiple layers of Zellige tiles are widely displayed in Islamic mosques, in a kaleidoscope of patterns and color combinations. They look similar to azulejo tiles you'd see in Spain and Portugal.
Its official -- spring is finally here and while it may not feel like it quite yet, there are plenty of things you can do around your home from your kitchen to your bedroom to put you in the mindset of this refreshing season… Curate Your Clutter || It’s time look at all those little dust collectors that are lining your surfaces and ask yourself: do I love it? – does it add value to my space? – is it functional? – If the answer is no to any of these questions then let it go. De-cluttering your home will create an instant refresh and feeling of renewal. Pops of Color || Switch out those dark and stormy hues for revitalizing and vibrant tones that will awaken your senses. Pantone’s Color of the Year, Greenery, is nature’s neutral and easy to incorporate into many home décor styles. Incorporating pops of color into your décor is as simple as adding toss pillows or throws to your sofa or changing your bedding. Switch It Up || We all have a tendency to become very complacent with the configurations of our rooms. Spring is a great time to shake things up a bit and experiment with different ones! Not only will it give the illusion of something new, it will also enable you to clean areas that are often neglected. New Life || Breathe new life into your home by decorating with plants. Terrariums are a stylish way of incorporating plants into your home décor and a great option for small spaces! For functionality, a windowsill herb garden is the way to go. Not only will it look pretty and smell spectacular, it will also be your one-stop seasoning shop!
Ranging from tranquil to moody, blue has a style personality like no other hue. The best part? The shades are cohesive enough to use in each room of your home to evoke a different ambiance. Style with confidence – your blueprint for blues has arrived… Tranquil Blues || Contrary to how it may sound, tranquil doesn’t necessarily mean light in saturation. It simply means a shade of blue that evokes a sense of calm. Ocean blue hues that have subtle green undertones are great for bedrooms! Studies have shown that painting your bedroom in a slightly more saturated, cool tone will aid in getting a more restful sleep. Neutral Blues || Yes, blue can even be used as a neutral! Saturation and undertones are the key to turning this primary color into a daringly bold neutral. Seek out airy blues that have gray undertones like Lullaby by Sherwin Williams. This particular hue is great for your walls in your living room, kitchen, or bathroom as it will allow you to easily incorporate bolder accents and furniture like your living room set! Moody Blues || Sultry and saturated, these blue tones are best used as accent colors as they can be a bit overwhelming when painted on every wall of a room. Make a focal wall by splashing it with a deep sapphire hue or make a statement with a bold blue sofa! Shades of blue evoke a sense of magic and serenity that no other hue can quite master. When polled, people always have a hard time choosing one color to be their favorite, but they can always pick the one they hate… and it’s rarely blue. Is it because most associate it with the calming nature of the ocean? Or maybe it’s that they equate it to the comfort of putting on their favorite pair of well-worn jeans. Either way blue, in all gradients, is a great color palette choice when designing your home.
Step aside crisp white because bold black is about to steal the show. This dark color trend has been growing subtly from accents to furniture to walls and it certainly has not peaked yet. Now we’re not suggesting you go full on Addams Family and paint your entire home black, but we will dare you to take a walk on the dark side. Flirt with these deep, sultry hues and you will create a whole new level of cozy in your home that is mysterious and intriguing… Accents || Fearlessly experiment with dark colors by sprinkling them throughout your home in the form of accents. Seek out an oversized piece of artwork, drapes, or a rug in deep tones and style it with the décor you have now. This is a great non-committal way to play around with these bold hues to see if you really like them. If not, then they are easy and less costly to remove. Contrast || If you inherently like dark colors, but your walls are lighter try painting an accent wall to start. Pull the look together with a sofa or side chair in a shade that is a little lighter than the accent wall to create dimension and cohesiveness. Immerse || Imagine dimming the lights and curling up in a plush throw blanket… that’s the feeling you get when you walk into a room with four dark walls. This daring design trend is great for the bedroom, as dark colors have been known to promote a healthy sleep environment, or in any room that is flooded with natural light.
Autumn has officially arrived. While we still have those pops of warm days here and there, most of us have swapped out our airy, barely-there summer wardrobe for a cozier look filled with silky cashmere and chunky cable knits. Just as your wardrobe shifts for the season, your home should also take on a more layered look that evokes a sense of coziness for the crisp days ahead… Introduce Earthy Hues || Burnt orange, mossy green, golden yellow… foliage-inspired tones that emulate the season will create a warming aura in your home. A new piece of artwork is a great way to incorporate these colors without negatively impacting your existing palette. Layer on Texture || Chunky cable knit blankets are having a moment right now and for good reason – it’s like wrapping yourself in a giant cozy sweater! Swap out those linen toss pillows on your sofa or bed for richer textures like velvet and chenille for a luxe look that won’t break the bank. Soften hard surfaces like dining chairs or entryway benches by draping a plush, sheepskin throw over them or place it on the floor beside your bed! Autumn Accents || Get creative with your autumnal décor this year. Adorn your home with “undone” floral arrangements in dark, moody hues that look as if they were freshly foraged from the wild. Give a subtle, classy nod to Halloween by creating a vignette of mini sugar pumpkins. These creamy white pumpkins are perfect for painting too so if you’re feeling crafty -- paint some black for a witchy touch!
Protect your investment by purchasing furniture that will be placed in high-traffic areas in a performance fabric like Sunbrella. What once was an outdoor-only fabrication has now exploded into an extensive collection of indoor textiles ideal for your busy and sometimes messy lifestyle. Wouldn't it be nice to gather with the family on the sofa for a movie night and not hold your breath when someone spills? Performance fabrics offer piece of mind with their stain/fade-resistant technology. You can even use bleach to spot clean those tougher messes... red wine anyone? Upscale style in luxurious textures and prints meets life functionality. So go ahead, let life happen.
This home décor trend is going out to all the wandering souls out there… the color lovers that thrive on wanderlust and exploration. Heavily influenced by Eastern European culture, bohemian style is the art of layering rich colors and textures with globally-inspired patterns, mixing in vintage elements, and topping it off with a dash of opulence to create a look that is effortlessly luxurious… Worldly Patterns || Layer, layer, layer. Boho is all about mixing prints in rich texture and saturated with color to create a warm and cozy vibe that is carelessly chic. Adorn your walls with crocheted tapestry, lay down an oriental rug, and fill your sofa with plush jewel-toned pillows… the result will be a space that’s just begging to be lounged in. Vintage Finds || Part of the appeal of boho style are the one-of-a-kind pieces that are sprinkled throughout the home, but to keep it authentic you must find those vintage treasures that are unique to your personality. Love to travel? Go on the hunt for some vintage suitcases to use as a nightstand or side table. Are you a photography buff? Hit up your local flea market for an antique camera to display in your home. Gilded Accents || Warm gold metallic elements like an étagère or cocktail table creates depth to the design by adding a touch of opulence. You can even introduce little pops of gold by way of planters or artwork! Your metallic accents work as the neutral in the room and will anchor the overall design.
Motion chairs have forever been function-over-fashion, but thankfully they’ve received a style update that has even the most design-savvy individuals swooning. The benefits behind owning a motion chair goes beyond therapeutic reasons. Whether they glide, swivel, or recline they are great at improving circulation and providing joint and muscle support. Motion chairs allow your entire body to rest without sleeping and with new designs and fabrications there is sure to be one that fits your style. The sofa is great, but there’s nothing quite like sinking into your favorite chair that fits your body just right... and now you can do it in style.
The industry’s top home furnishing designers gathered in High Point, NC to showcase their latest collection to prospecting retail buyers and interior designers for the biannual High Point Market. High Point Market is the equivalent to Fashion Week in the fashion world – it is the largest home furnishings industry trade show in the world, providing insight to new products and the latest trends in home décor… Mixed Media || Unique materials like concrete, metal, and stone are paired with more traditional elements like glass and wood to create an unexpected twist on classic silhouettes. Highlights include pieces like a writing desk or sofa table that feature metal bases topped with stone. Va Va Velvet || What once was a textile we only saw in the fall and winter months is now making an appearance in spring and summer! Slightly lighter in texture for the season, this fabric is being shown in both airy pastels and bold brights from pillows to ottomans to add a fun punch of color to your home. Flora & Fauna || While it’s not out of the ordinary to see an abundance of floral patterns for the warmer months, this design staple was spiced up with a dash of fauna this season! Birds and blooms mingle with leafy vines on poufs, bedding, and accent chairs. Nature's Neutrals || Bring the outdoors inside with textural raffia, rattan, or wicker. Furniture constructed of these natural elements provide a lighter look for the season while maintaining a refined look. Go coastal with the addition of shiplap or rope elements. Perfectly Imperfect || The Japanese design aesthetic known as wabi sabi – the art of living with imperfection, was prominent at this market. The trend highlights the inherent beauty of asymmetry and furniture pieces that are designed to purposefully look unfinished.
From hundred year-old trees dripping with Spanish moss, to candy-painted homes to weathered cobblestones, the charm of the South tantalizes all of the senses. Achieve the same allure in your home with a few design elements that embody this design savvy locale… Raw Materials || Draw inspiration from the cobblestone streets and black iron balconies that adorn historical plantations to add a dash of structure to your home. Seek out an accent table with metal legs and a marble top or a weathered stone planter for the living room. Or make a statement in your bedroom with a beautiful iron canopy bed! Punchy Palette || The South is rich with color whether it be airy pastels or bright, tropical hues – is this room going to embody the liveliness of King Street in Charleston or the airy ambiance of a quaint street in Savannah? Chambray blue or pale yellow are fantastic color choices for large-scale furniture (like a sofa) since they both evoke a southern vibe and can work as neutrals.   Bountiful Botanicals || While a sprawling oak tree dripping with Spanish moss cannot fit inside your home, you can still create a calming nature by adding other botanicals. Fiddle leaf figs, monstera, and paradise palms are all tall, bountiful plants that will create a soothing tropical ambiance in your home. Don’t have a green thumb? Not to worry – snake plants and ponytail palms thrive on neglect so they are great for beginners.

Being in New England there is nothing more nourishing than dining al fresco for the first time after a long winter. With just a few key pieces you can create a magical ambiance regardless of the size of your space… Seating || The traditional outdoor table with chairs is a great standard, however if you are short on space consider an outdoor sectional or loveseat and chair paired with a table! Adding plush textures to your outdoor space will create a cozy atmosphere with a touch of indoor luxury. With endless configurations from long farm tables with benches to high top tables with barstools, you can create multiple conversation spots by mixing and matching these pieces if your space allows. Don’t forget the chaise lounge for those afternoon naps in the sun!   Rug || An outdoor rug is a great way to soften the patio or define a dining space in your backyard if you don’t have a patio. Whether you choose a vibrant print or a laid-back solid, a rug will warm the space making shoes optional. And in fabrics that are stain resistant and fast-drying you won’t have to worry about New England’s unpredictable weather. Ambiance || Create an ethereal vibe by stringing twinkling lights or hanging Moroccan lanterns from your house or trees above. Keep those pesky insects at bay in style by placing pillar-style citronella candles in tall glass hurricanes. Complete the setting with a fire pit. Not only will it aid in keeping insects away, it will also provide warmth for those chillier nights. Campfire reimagined.
What once was a faux pas has now become an edgy home design trend that we like to call the art of mixing patterns and textures. Much like fashion, the common fear when it comes to experimenting with design trends is the fear of the unknown. You see it in a magazine and think “I love the way this looks, but this won’t work in my home” but it COULD as long as you keep these tips in mind… Variety in Scale || Think in order of large to small when picking your patterns. The larger patterns should be chosen in the form of your rug, drapes, accent chair, or any other large scale pieces in the room so the entire print is visible. This pattern will be the most impactful one in the room so be sure you pick one that you won’t get tired of or in an element that can easily be switched out such as drapes or an area rug. Once you have the large pattern you can start to layer in those smaller patterns or textures; three is ideal but no more than five depending on the size of the room. Layering in Texture || If your two patterns are the main focal point in the room, incorporating texture for the third layer will not only add depth to your design, it will also thread everything together. Just be mindful when choosing the intensity of the texture so it doesn’t compete with the prints you’ve chosen. The same rule applies if you decide to focus on two bold textures; keep the pattern light and subtle so it enhances the overall look. A Common Thread || Fluidity in design is key when mixing patterns and textures. This can be achieved by establishing a solid foundation and threading each layer of your design together with a common element whether it is color or theme of print. Example: a geometric printed rug paired with a heavily textured sofa decorated with floral pillows; staying within a common color scheme will harmonize the prints and texture flawlessly.
It's the heart of the home; the place where casual dining meets entertainment and everything in between. For some of you, the family room is the most used room in the house which is something you want to keep in mind when you are shopping for furniture to fill the space. Area Rug || We always say it’s best to design from the bottom up. Starting with the area rug will help you develop a color palette for the room while providing a cozy treat for your feet. Seating || L-shaped and U-shaped configurations promote conversation and provide a clear view of the television. Oversized sectionals will create the L-shape and sometimes includes reclining seats and/or a chaise lounge all in one piece! Another option is to mix and match a sofa (maybe a sleeper if you don’t have a guest room) with a chaise lounge, accent chairs, or a recliner to create a little dimension in the room. Due to the amount of traffic this room will see, aim for high performance fabrics like Sunbrella or Microfiber as they are both stain and fade resistant. Or if leather is more your style, seek out the pieces with a lacquer finish as they will be the most durable leather when maintained properly. Storage || Beauty can meet function with your media storage. Wall units create a focal point while hiding all of those unsightly wires and consoles. Personalize it by adding your favorite books, picture frames, or nostalgic knick-knacks. Tables || The family room table as evolved over the years, with the oversized ottoman topped with a tray being the latest trend. The ottoman is great because when not being used as a place to rest your drink, it can serve as a place to rest your feet. Some even have hidden storage!
Creating a theater experience inside your home has never been easier now that televisions are getting larger, clearer, and smarter. Give your brain an escape from reality and indulge in your favorite television show or latest blockbuster without leaving the comfort of your own home. You have the television, now you need the furniture to complete the room. Seating || For the ultimate cozy experience, a plush oversized sectional is the way to go. Consider one in durable upholstery like Sunbrella so if someone spills you won’t have to think twice about it. Sectionals also give you the ability to achieve a couple different seating configurations. Leather recliners will give you the most authentic look and feel of a theater and come in a few different variations such as loveseats and sectionals. Zero clearance recliners will maximize the amount of seating you’ll be able to fit in the room. Add some cozy blankets and let the film roll. Storage Unit || The size of your television will depend on the storage unit you purchase. Wall units can house most televisions up to 70 inches, sound system, and other consoles. They also give you the ability to add a few personal touches such as picture frames or fan memorabilia. Or if that’s not your style, consider a smaller console that will still keep your accessories organized, but on a minimalist level. Some even have built-in fireplaces for added ambiance and coziness! Snack Bar || For a touch of whimsy and added authenticity, create your own concession stand so good snacks and drinks are only a foot away! If space is tight you can achieve a similar feel with a fully stocked bar cart too!
