Coats for Kids™ Donating gently used coats to keep kids and families warm. The 2019 Coats For Kids Program collection will begin in October. Please check back again at that time for all details. Thank you! Jordan's Furniture partners with Coats for Kids to promote and support their mission of “Anyone who needs a coat will have one.” To promote Coats for Kids, we spread the word throughout our communities, encouraging people to donate their gently used coats to kids and adults of families in-need. We collect coats at all Jordan's locations. The coats are cleaned free of charge by Anton's Cleaners and then distributed through the Coats for Kids Distribution Partners network, which includes The Salvation Army, The Wish Project, Jumpstart, Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless, Rosie's Place, MASSCAP, BU Medical Center's Outreach Van, Community Giving Tree, and many others. Donated items are given to families in need in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. Rewarding schools who help too To encourage students to get involved, Coats for Kids offers a School Rewards ™ program that recognizes the top schools who gather the most coats. We love to see kids helping kids. So Jordan's Furniture rewards the winning schools with gift cards and Sunbrella® IMAX tickets. For more information about the Coats for Kids Program, visit www.antons.com/cfk. Coats For Kids is sponsored by Jordan's Furniture, Antons Cleaners, and Enterprise Bank.
Youth Achievement Celebration Honoring youth in foster care who graduate from high school and college. Each year, Jordan's Furniture honors youth in foster care who earn their high school diploma or college degree. Every May, we reward these students with a statewide Youth Achievement Celebration at our Jordan's Reading location. Hundreds of guests, including honored youth, foster families, and social workers, pack our Sunbrella® IMAX Theater for this moving event. Hosted by Eliot Tatelman, Jordan's President and CEO, the evening features a special awards ceremony and inspiring guest speaker. Past speakers include the late Boston Mayor Tom Menino, former Massachusetts Governor Duvall Patrick, and Joe Fallon from The Fallon Companies. Every graduate receives a Certificate of Achievement, along with an exclusive gift bag. We began sponsoring the Youth Achievement Celebration in 2002, when over 75 celebrants were invited to the IMAX Theater in Natick. In 2007, the event grew so large we had to move it to our Reading location, to accommodate the number of youth, their foster parents, siblings, and social workers who gathered to celebrate. “Each year, this event gets bigger and bigger. We are thrilled to continue the tradition of honoring the youth,” said Tatelman. “It is important to acknowledge the academic achievements of these great kids, many who have made it through some adverse conditions. It is our way to show our support for them.”

Jordan's Adoption Initiative Partnering with MARE and DCF to help connect families and children. In 1988, we began partnering with the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) to help children in foster care find homes. Our work grew to include collaboration with the Department of Children and Families (DCF) and other contracted adoption agencies. One of our first partnership acts together in 1999 was the Jordan's Initiative, the creation of the Memorandum of Commitment, which was signed by MARE, DCF, Jordan's Furniture, and other contracted adoption agencies. The memorandum outlines our mutual agreement to help accelerate the path to permanency for all children in the Massachusetts Child Welfare System waiting to be adopted by collaborating to overcome the barriers impeding the placement of children. An Advisory Board was also established with members of Jordan's Furniture, MARE, DCF, and other contracted agencies to oversee and facilitate the objectives of the Memorandum of Commitment and the activities of the Jordan's Initiative. The board meets on monthly basis. Because of the Jordan's Initiative, over 300 children have been placed in adoptive homes. To date, there have been countless projects created; all with the goal of finding permanent homes for children in foster care. An additional goal was added to include the recruitment of foster families, when there is need. Annual Jordan's Initiative projects include: Adoption Option family recruitment event at Jordan's Furniture Summer Adoption Mixer event at Assumption College Jordan's Youth Achievement Celebration event at Jordan's Furniture Jordan's Youth Donation Program to assist young adults "systeming out" of state care Walk/Run for Adoption supporting the programs of MARE Adoptive Family Morning at Enchanted Village celebrating National Adoption Day Other ongoing projects of the Jordan's Initiative include: Sponsorship of MARE Heart Gallery and display in all stores (2000-present) Creation of regional coalitions (1999-present) Past projects of the Jordan's Initiative have included: Plus One Challenge project for foster family recruitment (bi-annually) 2-hour TV special about special needs adoption on Channel 56 (Spring 2002) Radio ad campaign regarding DCF budget cuts (Spring 2002) Social Worker Appreciation Day at Jordan's Furniture (April 2001) Adoption displays in lobby of Jordan's-sponsored Mamma Mia!  (Fall 2001) Reception for Poster Kids Project, featuring life-sized images of waiting children (Feb. 2001) Button Project (Fall/Winter 1999/2000) Home Run for Kids event at Fenway Park, with accompanying radio campaign (Sept. 2000) Jordan's Older Boys' Adoption event (with radio campaign) (Sept. 2000) Mardi Gras Adoption Informational event at Jordan's (with radio campaign) (Feb. 1999) DCF Challenge 2000 Conference and Matching Session (Fall 1999) To date, over 285 children have been placed in adoptive homes, due to the "Jordan's Initiative." Adoption Summer Mixer Connecting children and youth in foster care with families ready to adopt. Jordan’s Furniture partners with the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) to fund and organize a special, private, adoption event with the hope of finding permanent, loving homes for older children and sibling groups living in foster care. “Jordan's has been a part of the adoption and foster care community for over 16 years now," says Jordan's President and CEO, Eliot Tatelman, referring to the company’s dozens of adoption initiatives. “Once we saw how many kids, especially older kids, who were looking for families, we started to do whatever we could to help out.” Every other summer, the Adoption Summer Mixer is held at Assumption College in Worcester, Massachusetts. Invitations are sent to social workers of older children, who are currently in foster care and legally ready for adoption. Invitations are also sent to families who have been home-studied and MAPP trained, and are ready to adopt. The mixer activities include morning workshops, a catered lunch, and a fun, afternoon carnival. For one day, children and youth in foster care, social workers and families gather with a one goal in mind– to connect children and families. "We were excited to see the magic happen at our Adoption Summer Mixer," concludes Tatelman. "These connections can change the life of both the children and the families. It is what it is all about and is much more rewarding than just selling furniture!"

Holiday Spoons Project Sponsoring a Project Bread initiative to help end hunger. Project Bread funds nearly 400 emergency food programs throughout Massachusetts to help provide a safety net for citizens during difficult financial times.  To help this cause, each year we proudly sponsor the Holiday Spoons Project. The project works by inspiring kids to turn ordinary wooden spoons into works of art, which are sold, and the money is donated to Project Bread, to help prevent hunger in Massachusetts.  We match every donation up to $10,000. So for example, a classroom collecting $250 for their artistic spoons will actually be donating $500 to Project Bread. In addition, individual classrooms are enticed to donate. To encourage participation, we reward the school group who raises the most in Holiday Spoons donations with movie tickets to our Sunbrella ® IMAX theater. The Holiday Spoons Project is dedicated to getting youth groups, schools, neighborhoods and families involved in the effort to end hunger. By participating, children learn about hunger and about how their efforts can help those who need it. “We know from individual letters and other feedback that our matching program is an incentive to many teachers and students to try and collect as much as possible and, thereby, donate the maximum amount to Project Bread,” says Eliot Tatelman, President and CEO of Jordan's Furniture. “We have continued to participate in the Holiday Spoons Project for almost 10 years now because of this reaction from area schools. In the end, more families-in-need are being fed. That is the bottom line.” If you think your school, community group, or family would like to get involved, go to the Holiday Spoons Project link on the Project Bread web site.

It's Boston...Only Sweeter Visit our Reading store for a surreal Hub experience. Sweet House The Old State House in Boston dates back to 1713. The Sweet House at Jordan’s Furniture is much younger—and, frankly, much tastier. This candied model’s walls, columns, and golden dome are made up of over 6 million jelly beans. Inside is a candy shop, selling unique kinds of sweets, like Jelly Belly jelly beans. Wally The Green Monster Fenway Park’s mascot Wally is larger and more alive than ever in Jordan’s Beantown in Reading, MA. Sitting atop a life-sized Green Monster made of jelly beans, Wally holds a New York player in his glove. Wally is hungry, ready to enjoy a pinstriped snack! Remember, Jordan’s Furniture is the furniture store of the Boston Red Sox. Big Dig Ice Cream No Beantown could be complete without plenty of construction. Jordan’s Furniture decided, however, to make this Big Dig even bigger—and sweeter. The Big Dig is a 40-foot ice cream sundae made from over 4 million jelly beans. It houses a Richardson's Ice Cream shop, too. Liquid Fireworks Liquid Fireworks provide a stunning water, light, and sound display. Fountains of water dance in time as lights color and shimmer amidst them. You can sit and enjoy the show as you eat ice cream inside Jordan’s Beantown. Kids and adults alike will love the show.

Register at www.jordanswalkforadoption.org Join us on Sunday, May 19 from 10am to 1pm for our annual Walk/Run for Adoption, in partnership with the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange. “What makes a house feel like a home?” asks Jordan's Furniture, CEO, Eliot Tatelman. “It's not furniture,” comes the surprising answer, “It's family. But hundreds of kids living right here in Massachusetts are waiting for all the comforts of home AND family,” he adds. That’s why, at Jordan's Furniture, we continue to champion for children in state foster care. Every year, we coordinate and host the Annual Walk/Run for Adoption, to benefit the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) and their programs. MARE supports and recruits adoptive parents for children and teens in state foster care. Our exciting Walk/Run for Adoption event kicks off with a 5K Run (chip-timed) and family-friendly 5K Walk. When they are kids their bedroom is a castle of imagination, but as they enter their transformative teen years, their bedroom morphs into a private sanctuary to take refuge when the trials of growing up are challenging them. A bedroom makeover will not only be a new bonding experience for both of you, but it will also be a fantastic learning experience for your teen! The Inspiration || Sit down with your teen and talk inspiration. How far are you willing to let them go to transform this space? Maybe it’s just a matter of switching up the furniture and décor or maybe painting will be involved too. Create a mood board to organize style ideas; Pinterest is a spectacular tool for this project as you both can pin to the same board and share your thoughts! The Budget || Once your teen has settled on a design that you both agree on, set a budget for them to stay within. Like a real-life game of monopoly, this will teach them what they can do with the resources available and the best way to allocate them. Maybe they’ll just end up with a new bedroom set because they fell in love with one that consumes their entire budget! Either way they will learn the valuable lesson of what to splurge on and what to save on in order to achieve the completed design. The Execution || Alas, it is time to put the design in motion! Many lessons are learned in this phase from painting techniques to flow of design, but one of the most important is the art of taking proper measurements. When in doubt, measure twice. This is why inspiration boards are so important too – if that dream bed doesn’t fit then your teen will already have a backup plan in place! Before buying any furniture, create a mock layout to get an idea of how the room will flow. The same rule applies when it’s time decorate the walls – arrange the pieces on the floor before hanging them on the wall so you have a visual guide.

Playtime is not just for the kids anymore. Thanks to all the advances in technology it’s now possible to create an arcade right in your own home without actually looking like an arcade. Choose your elements of fun and let the good times roll… The Space || The square-footage of your space will determine how you choose to fill it. Be mindful that most game tables require 3-5 feet of additional space around them in order to play comfortably. Lighting is also important as some games require more direct lighting than others; while if you decide to focus on digital gaming / theater you will need adjustable lighting. The Furniture || Regardless of how much space you are working with creating a bar area is possible from bar carts to bar cabinets to built-in bars! Are you a digital gaming guru / movie maven? Splurge on comfy theater seating that reclines and is equipped with cup holders and USB ports. Are traditional table games more your style? Fill the room with pub tables and bar stools so people have a place to relax and snack while they wait their turn. The Fun || Now that you have the basic design layout you can choose the fun! You can’t go wrong with a pool table, foosball table, or air hockey table, but if space is limited consider games that don’t take up as much space in the room such as darts or shuffleboard. Keep some vintage board games on hand for a nostalgic twist!

Europe is like that unequivocal cool kid – they don’t follow trends, they set them. While diversity in design ranges from country to country the one adjective that best describes them all is: chic. From minimalism to opulence each design evokes a sense of effortlessness that transcends the test of time. Posh Parisian || Deemed fashion capitol of the world, Paris, has mastered the art of effortless sophistication. Their evolving interior design style strikes a balance between old and new, opulence and minimalism. Vintage accents like an ornate chandelier is paired with a clean, modern sofa. Light walls offer a blank canvas for decadent texture like a velvet accent chair in royal blue or a tufted ottoman. Merry Mediterranean || Inspired by the cheerful hues of the sun, sand, and sea, Mediterranean design is as carefree as the people that inhabit the area. Capitalizing on their perpetually mild climate, Mediterranean architecture blurs the line between the outdoors and indoors; bare picture windows and sliding glass doors dominate design making dining al fresco a seamless transition. Patios are filled with cushy outdoor furniture that is as cozy as their living room set. Simply Scandinavian || Built on the Scandinavian design philosophy that less is more, minimalism is characterized by clean simplicity and functionality without compromising comfort. Clean lines like leggy, tight-back sofas are juxtaposed with rich texture like a sheepskin rug to create a crisp-meets-cozy vibe. Void of any bold primary hues, this design aesthetic was made for the lovers of all things neutral.

The children have moved out; now what? You’re not quite ready to let go of the house you raised your children in, but now you have extra rooms that need a refresh. It’s a bittersweet feeling, but there are many things you can do to fill the space. It’s time to reflect on all the things you said you’d do “once the kids are gone” and make it happen! Here are a few ideas to get you started on this new adventure… The Man Cave || Equipped with a projection screen to view the big game, plush leather recliners that have built-in cup holders, pub tables complete with barstools, a mini fridge so you don’t have to go far to replenish, and a shuffleboard table to keep the fun going through half-time! The Home Office || Design an inspiring space that reflects your personality and style and that will keep you motivated! For him: A rich mahogany desk with an oversized leather chair and a file chest topped with decanters of the finest libations of choice. For her: A whitewash desk with a tufted chair and a bookcase reimagined with a few photographs, candles, and of course books! For the Yogi || Transform this room into an oasis of relaxation with a minimalist approach. Soft lighting created by decorative sconces and hurricanes filled with pillar candles will make you feel as though you are at the spa. Create a focal point with a large landscape painting that best suits your personality and will help bring you to that meditative state. Complete the look with a superbly soft shag rug and oversized pillows to create a hygge [Scandinavian word for a mood of coziness & comfortable conviviality with feelings of wellness & contentment] vibe that soothes your soul. For the Fashionista || Create the ultimate closet complete with shelving that displays your shoes, a three-way mirror to make sure you’re looking great at every angle, a jewelry chest for all those costume jewels and a hidden safe for the real ones, and lastly a plush chaise lounge (because with a closet this amazing you’ll want to sit for a minute and revel in it).
Belle of the Ball Program Donating like-new, stylish dresses so girls in-need can go to the prom The 2019 Belle of the Ball  Program collection has officially come to a close. We will begin accepting like-new dresses again next year. Thank you!  Each year, hundreds of girls in-need are not able to attend the prom because of limited financial resources. The annual Belle of the Ball Program provides dresses to these girls.  Teaming up with Anton’s Cleaners, we reach out to people in our communities to ask if they have a prom gown, or a semi-formal, holiday or party dress to donate … because we have the perfect occasion in mind. Donated dresses are accepted at all Jordan’s Furniture locations and at Anton’s Cleaners. Anton’s professionally cleans each dress, free of charge. The gowns and dresses are distributed through an “invitation only” boutique, where qualified girls can try on and a dress. Invitations are arranged through a Referral Partners Program of over 100 public and private agencies. Charity Requests Jordan’s Furniture is proud to participate in many philanthropic programs and partnerships. They are largely focused on children in-need and the adoption/foster care communities. We make donations and create events that assist children in under-served communities and to help find permanent homes for children/youth in foster care. The donations are distributed through area non-profits and charities who support these causes. Due to the volume of requests that are received by Jordan’s Furniture every week, not all requests can be fulfilled. Jordan’s also does not grant donations or funding dedicated to travel, art, film, personal projects or to groups other than recognized nonprofits. All requests for donations must be submitted online or mailed in writing on nonprofit stationery and include documentation/tax ID # proving the 501C3 charity status. Online requests can be submitted by clicking the button below. Letters can be mailed to the address below and should include specific, detailed information. Each request will be reviewed and evaluated. Due to the large number of inquiries, a response will be sent only if the request can be fulfilled. Please allow 2 weeks for a response. Regarding furniture requests from individuals enduring hardship or in-need organizations, please contact the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless at 781-595-7570 or the Furniture Bank of Rhode Island at 401-461-5511 or CT’s New Reach, Inc at 203-980-5080. Jordan’s Furniture makes monthly donations to both organizations so that individuals and organizations in-need can be referred directly to them. Thank you very much for understanding our process. Jordan’s Furniture is proud to support and assist many charities, families, and children in our communities! The Enchanted Village - Avon, MA Now Closed Until Holiday Season 2019. Take a stroll through The Enchanted Village, a true New England tradition. Plus, take a picture with Santa and top it all off with a Jordan's Furniture blueberry muffin! The Spirit of Boston’s Holidays Throughout the 1960's and into the 1970's, Jordan Marsh displayed the Enchanted Village in its Downtown Crossing store. The heart-warming display quickly became an integral part of New England’s seasonal celebrations. Until 1972, when Jordan Marsh closed the display, a trip to The Village was a traditional event. A Tradition in Jeopardy The Enchanted Village remained closed from 1972 until its rebirth in 1990. Then, in 1998, when Macy’s purchased Jordan Marsh, the Village was sold to the City of Boston for a City Hall Plaza display. In 2003, a lack of funding forced the Village to move to the Hynes Convention Center. By 2006, Boston stopped displaying The Village altogether. In 2009, the Village was put up for auction. A Local Custom Continues Jordan’s Furniture purchased the surviving pieces of the Enchanted Village at auction in May of 2009 and restored the vintage collection to its former glory. The Village is on permanent display here in Avon, and is open for all to enjoy during the holiday season. Whether you’re reliving your youth or starting a new family tradition, Jordan’s hopes your holidays are as enchanting as the Enchanted Village. The Enchanted Village is closed until holiday season 2019.
Heart Gallery Photo Exhibit Displaying the portraits of children in need of adoption. We partner with the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) to display the MARE's Heart Gallery, photo exhibit in our stores. The exhibit features beautiful, color portraits of youth, primarily age 6 to 18, who are currently under the state’s care and wish to be adopted.  Professional photographers from across the state volunteer their expertise in creating inspiring portraits that capture the essence of these children.  The children include sibling groups, children of color, and youths with intellectual, physical, and/or emotional difficulties. We sponsor The Heart Gallery by funding some of the program’s expenses, and by providing a permanent venue for displaying The Heart Gallery exhibit at our stores. Here’s where to find them: Reading store in the hallway near the escalators Avon on the elevator bank in the Atrium Natick across from the House of Blues on Bourbon Street Nashua in the store office The photos in The Heart Gallery continually change.
