The popularity of platform beds is on the rise and for good reason - these gems offer plenty of benefits from functionality to style. Whether you rise above or keep it low, here are 5 reasons you should think outside the box…spring. Better Mattress || Since platform beds do not require a box spring you can invest in a better quality mattress or accommodating pillows. After all, your bed’s sole purpose is to rejuvenate you so comfort should be your main priority! Space Saver || Some platform beds feature integrated nightstands which is a practical and stylish space-saver for small space dwellers! Low Profile || Not all platform beds are high – in fact low-profile platform beds are increasingly more popular thanks to the rise of the hygge design trend. Not only will it give the illusion of taller ceilings, it is also a great option if your bed is placed in front of a window. Natural light will flood your space making you feel as though you were laying on an exotic cabana bed by the ocean. Clean Lines || Lovers of clean lines rejoice! A platform bed means no more fussing with those pesky bed skirts. Show off that beautiful frame by tucking your bed linens neatly under your mattress from top to bottom! Storage Solution || Many platform beds offer spacious drawers either on the side or at the foot of the bed. Store linens, seasonal clothing, or anything else you would like to rid your closet of. Some even feature open shelving which is great for storing books or a beautiful throw.
Protect Against Bed Bugs Fight off bed bug infestations by protecting your mattress with the right products. BED BUGS are a growing problem. They are “hitchhikers," meaning they transfer from host to host, going easily from infested areas to non-infested areas. Just because you don't have an infestation of bed bugs today, that does not mean you can't have one tomorrow. Bed bugs are small parasites. They are so tiny that they often go unseen by the naked human eye. Normally, it takes a large infestation of these parasites before a person notices there is a problem. That makes preventative measures especially important to take. Mattress and foundation encasements are easy, cost-efficient, and very effective. Their materials and product designs keep bed bugs out long before an infestation can begin. Learn more about our mattress protection products, and begin your fight against bed bugs today.

Blue & White || From nautical navy and white to chinoiserie patterns, this combo always looks fresh Certain color combinations have truly stood the test of time, none more so than blue and white. When it comes to interiors – outdoors, too – blue and white always looks fresh, cool, crisp and sophisticated. From bold, poolside cabana striped draperies to richly-patterned chinoiserie vases and ginger jars, this timeless pairing works equally well in solid blocks of color or intricate patterns. It's particularly strong in cooling down summer outside settings, but for warmth and zing, add orange, pink or yellow. And, you can use blue and white in any room – think of a guest bedroom covered in French toile de jouy (twal-duh-zhwee) fabric, the aforementioned chinoiserie vases scattered around a living room, or a serene bedroom with muted versions of blue with white for comforters, pillows, and window treatments. However you incorporate it, blue and white just feels right. However you incorporate it, blue and white just feels right. Sky-View Seats || It's not surprising…according to many surveys, America's favorite color is blue. It's almost never jarring, but calm and cool, though it does feel more energetic in saturated versions of navy, royal blue, and turquoise. And, it's readily available on upholstered furniture, from dining and accent chairs to upholstered beds, sofas and ottomans, as well as every kind of accessory. Metal or wicker outdoor furniture is often painted white, with classic navy blue cushions for an inviting summer look.   Coastal Connotations || There's nothing better than relaxing by the ocean, lake or pool. Blue sky, blue water, white sand – we're intrinsically drawn to these coastal hues because they are so prevalent in nature. And even though grey is an enduring color go-to, we don't long for a grey sky the way we do blue. You can create coastal vibes in any room using blue and white, especially if you mix in variations like cornflower, periwinkle or powder blue. Sometimes you can find many variations in one area rug that can act as a springboard for creating an oasis of calm.   Cool Accents || If you have a neutral-hued room, add some color with blue patterned pillows, and for porch, deck or patio, get them in Sunbrella weather-resistant fabrics. For dining, set a table with blue and white patterned dinnerware mixed with cobalt water goblets, plus blue and white floral table linens for a fresh look. Typically, bathrooms are white, so towels and rugs with blue in them beautifully complement white tile and porcelain. Or, try painting a light blue ceiling in a white room for a tranquil feeling every time you look up. This technique is often used to great effect on porches, where Southern tradition says a "haint blue" ceiling will ward off evil spirits.
Wood Maintenance These useful tips will help keep fine wood furniture looking good for years. Caring for Wood Furniture Polish wood furniture with the Peace of Mind polish at least four times a year to keep it moisturized and protected. Regular dusting with a soft cloth is recommended. Paper towels have a rough surface and can scratch wood surfaces. Surface scratches, burns and water marks are preventable. Using coasters, placemats, and table cloths will help protect wood finishes. A quality heat-resistant table pad is recommended. Apply protective felt pads to the feet of decorative objects and electronic equipment to prevent scratching and sticking. If a fifth center support leg is included with a new dresser, be sure that it is screwed in place to maintain structural integrity. Beds should be disassembled before moving. Lifting one side of the bed or dragging the bed to move it can break the rails, and/or the headboard and footboard. Understanding the Appearance of Wood Furniture Because wood is a natural product, color and grain variations, along with the appearance of natural characteristics is to be expected. Manufacturers often take great care to add "distressing" to a new piece of wood furniture. Common distressing techniques include filing down edges, adding nicks and holes to a surface, and rubbing paint finishes. Distressing lends a time- worn, aged look and great character to the piece. Often overlooked in the store, it's an intentional extra step taken to enhance the overall appearance. Color Change in Wood Exposure to natural light can cause wood surfaces to change color. Cherry will become noticeably darker; natural maple and birch will acquire a yellow patina. Some wood surfaces can fade in direct sunlight. If fading is a concern, covering the surface can help protect wood finishes. Tables and table leaves are an example of when color difference is most noticeable. If leaves are stored most of the year, and then ed for holiday gatherings, it can be expected that the color of the table and the leaves will be different, taking into consideration that the table has been exposed to more light than the leaves. Odors: The "New Smell" of Wood Most new furniture often has an odor. The odor is not harmful, and will dissipate in a short amount of time. Air out the room by opening doors and windows if possible to reduce the smell of the new furniture. Using dryer sheets, or coffee grinds in an open container, near the furniture can help neutralize any odors. Expansion and Contraction: Wood Furniture on the Move! Wood furniture constantly reacts to the humidity level in the environment. Increased humidity causes wood to expand; colder drier air causes wood to contract. In humid months, drawers might "stick" and open with resistance. During dry winter weather, wood contracts. Consequently, furniture can show gaps, especially where a table leaf fits into a table top, or around dresser drawers. Both of these issues are temporary. When moisture levels in the home stabilize, wood furniture will return to its regular appearance and performance. Leveling and Tightening Components As a house "settles", floors in the home can become uneven. This is mostly noticeable in hard surface flooring, like wood or tile. Armoires, TV cabinets and other wood furniture often have built-in leveling systems to help furniture stand securely. Look for leveling instructions that are included with the furniture, or call Jordan's Customer Service Department (1-866-8-JORDANS) for assistance. Leveling procedures booklet With use, chair legs can loosen. Periodic tightening of the hardware will help keep chairs level. Table Leaves Unless a dining table has a fifth center support leg, leaving table leaves in place for long periods of time can cause the table to sag in the middle. When not in use, table leaves should be wrapped in a soft cloth or in a specially designed storage bag and stored horizontally. Storing leaves face down and flat in a protected area, such as under a bed, is recommended.

The best defense is a good offense, right? Nobody wants to even think about bed bugs, but it’s better to have all the facts than to be blindsided if you ever end up with an infestation. The myths, the facts, and tips for ridding your home of these mini-monsters… What is a bed bug? || Bed Bugs are visible to the naked eye; about the size and thickness of an apple seed and reddish brown in color. They live on human blood; however they can live for months without feeding. Their bite resembles other types of bug bites and since some people do not have a reaction to bed bug bites the only way to confirm you have an infestation is to identify the bugs in your home. They reside together in tight spots like cracks, seams of luggage or clothes, and may also take shelter behind wallpaper or inside mattresses, box springs, and furniture. Myth || Bed Bugs are only found in dirty, cluttered homes or hotels. Fact || Even the most immaculately clean homes and hotels can attract bed bugs, but ridding your home of unnecessary clutter will reduce the number of places they can live. Myth || They only bite in the dark. Fact || Though more active at night, they’re not nocturnal bugs which means they can bite any time. Myth || If you have bed bugs you have to get rid of infested clothing, furniture, and mattresses. Fact || Laundering clothing will get rid of the bed bugs and in most cases furniture & mattresses can be treated unless the infestation is so severe that there is no adequate treatment. Prevention || Bed bugs are professional hitchhikers. Be mindful when purchasing secondhand furniture, mattresses, and clothing; inspect each article before taking it into your home. The same rule of thumb should be followed when traveling - inspect the luggage rack and beds for any kind of residue or bugs. Using a protective cover on you mattress & box spring will help to eliminate hiding spots and make them easier to spot if an infestation does occur. Vacuum your home frequently especially if there is a possibility you may have come into contact with bed bugs. If you are living in an apartment complex with shared laundry or if you use visit a laundry mat, transport your wash in plastic bags and promptly remove from dryer directly into the bag and fold at home. Treatment || The aforementioned preventative measures will also help in the treatment of bed bugs, but you can also obtain special non-toxic glue traps that will aid in early detection of an infestation. Simply place the traps at the corners of your mattress and under furniture cushions. Sometimes it is necessary to seek help from a professional exterminator, but be sure it is a reputable company as insecticides alone can rarely eliminate the problem. Non-chemical methods such as superheating infested rooms should be integrated into the bed bug removal program. For additional information regarding treatment & prevention please visit the US Environmental Protection Agency’s website: www.epa.gov/bedbugs

The most personal space in your home deserves the most personality and most thoughtful design. Transform your bedroom into a relaxation haven that is unique to you in three easy steps. Curated Color || Decide on a color palette that speaks to you. Creating a tranquil aura can be achieved with hues of blue, purple, and teal as they are known for encouraging sleep and relaxation. While warmer hues promote a lively environment and aren’t recommended for the bedroom, the colors that make you happy are best for your space. If you are uneasy about deciding on wall color entirely, give yourself a blank canvas to work with and choose white. Then you can add in pops of whatever colors you love with décor, furniture, and textiles and maybe even an accent wall! Just be sure the colors you choose harmonize into a calming overall look; cohesiveness is key. Optimized Organization || It is no secret that our surrounding environment has a direct impact on our moods. Keep your bedroom neat and organized with storage solutions that go beyond the norm. Many beds, including those with the super cozy tufted headboards, have side drawers under the bed or at the foot of the bed making them a perfect solution for small spaces. Have room to spare? Add a bench to the end of your bed that features hidden storage. Many ottomans have the same feature and come in great textures and colors that will truly elevate your space!   Thoughtful Details || Love to travel? Seek out some vintage suitcases, stack them beside your bed and voila! You have a nightstand and extra storage. Are you a bookworm? You can achieve the same look and functionality (minus the storage) by piling up some of your favorite oversized books. Spend your free time gardening? Create a garden wall by mounting a wooden pallet and decorating it with greenery and votive candles! Take time to curate a collection of décor that is truly unique to you and what you love.

Healthy Bedroom Tips Here are 5 ways to improve your sleep environment ... and your overall health. YOUR BEDROOM SHOULD encourage a restful sleep. That means you need to think about these five elements: Light—One of the most powerful time cues in nature is light. Bright light tends to increase alertness. Conversely, a dark room is more conducive to sleep. Use curtains or shades to prevent light from interrupting sleep. Noise—Irregular or sudden loud noises from inside or outside the home can disrupt sleep or cause alertness. Steady, low sounds, like those from a fan, can be soothing and often help block out distracting noises. Temperature—The ideal bedroom temperature is 60° F to 65° F. A room that is too warm or too cold can disrupt sleep. Proper Sleep Surface—It is crucial that your mattress set provides you with both proper support and adequate pressure relief. If you sleep with a partner, your mattress should allow each of you enough space to move comfortably without disturbing one another. From an alignment perspective, pillows are as important as your mattress. If your pillows do not align you properly, they could contribute to pain in the neck or back. Allergen & Bed Bug Protection—Reduce your exposure to the irritants that cause you suffering. These things include dust mites, mold, mildew, etc. Improve Your Environment Even if your allergy symptoms are minimal, Jordan's Sleep Lab encourages you to create the healthiest sleep environment possible. Here’s how: Encase Your Bedding—Enveloping your sleep surface and pillows in protective encasements prevents dust mites or bed bugs from finding a home in your bedding. Visit Sleep Lab’s "Accessories" pages for options. Wash Sheets and Pillowcases Regularly—Wash your sheets and pillowcases at least once a week in hot water (140° F or hotter). Avoid Steam Cleaning—Steam cleaning your bedding only increases humidity and moisture levels, making a more conducive environment for allergens.
The holiday season is in full swing! Whether you are opening your home for guests to stay after a party or you have family visiting for an extended period of time, spruce up that guest room and make them feel as though they are staying at a five star resort! Fluff the Bed || Crisp white sheets, a cozy duvet, and lots of fluffy pillows will create a bed that was made for sleeping in until noon. Don’t skimp on the mattress! All those delightfully comfy bed linens will be wasted on a lumpy old mattress. A quality mattress is a great investment as it will last longer than average since it’s a bed that won’t be slept in nightly. Finish off the look with a folded throw at the end of the bed. It’s always a great idea to have an additional blanket handy since everyone has different sleeping temperature preferences. Keep it Clean || For some of us, the guest room can turn into a bit of a catchall. Be sure to declutter prior to your guests arriving. Not only will it heighten their experience, it will also force you to decide what to keep and what to purge! Be sure to designate an area for their belongings whether it is a chest with a clean surface or an oversized side chair. Create a calming vibe in the room by keeping the décor simple and the color palette light and airy so it truly feels like an escape (you might even find yourself wanting to spend the night in there sometimes!). Thoughtful Provisions || Create a mini-bar for your guests complete with a few snacks, bottled water, toiletries, a charging device, and a notecard with the Wi-Fi password. A bar cart is a great landing place for this set-up! Also include a few bath towels so they won’t have to bother asking every time they want to freshen up. If you have guests that are visiting the area for the first time, compile a list of must-see attractions, dining recommendations, and local events for them to refer to at their leisure! Lastly, add a vase of fresh flowers for a pop of color and subtle fragrance!
Do you suffer from night sweats? It’s a common problem for many of us. Your body temperature fluctuates throughout the day in accordance to your activity, which is why you may have noticed that chill in the air at the end of the day – that is your body’s way of telling you that it’s time for bed. Your body temperature is at its lowest when you’re asleep… so why are you waking up with night sweats? During REM (rapid eye movement) sleep your brain’s temperature-regulating cells switch off leaving your body temperature at the mercy of your sleep environment. Following these best practices will help you snooze without the sweat… Your Room || Think of your bedroom as a cave. At nightfall the ideal room temperature for sleeping is between 60 and 67 degrees Fahrenheit. Lighting is also a major contributor to your quality of sleep. Sometimes even the dimmest of lights can affect how soundly you sleep so it’s best to ensure that your bedroom is as dark as possible. Your Mattress || Your mattress could be the culprit causing your night sweats since some mattresses retain more heat than others. If your mattress is one of them then consider investing in a mattress with cooling technology. These mattresses are comprised of materials that draw heat away from your body. If this isn’t an option for you right now then consider purchasing an electric mattress pad. This is a great option for couples that have different sleeping needs as there are two zones that can be heated or cooled. Additional Tips || Use 100% bamboo or Tencel sheets as they are moisture-wicking fabrics. Take a bath 60-90 minutes before bed. When you get out of the bath, your body temperature will automatically cool down as the water evaporates from your skin setting the stage for a great night sleep.

Temperature Regulating Sleep too Hot or too Cold? When individuals become too hot or too cold, sleep is disturbed – tossing and turning, waking, throwing the covers off, etc… and you wake up feeling groggy and tired. Traditional bedding can trap warm, moist air.  This leads to an uncomfortable sleeping environment, which works against what your body is naturally trying to do…cool down.  During menopause, skin temperature can increase as much as 6° F.  1.3 grams /minute of perspiration during a hot flash would double the rate of heat loss then resulting in chills. Do you sleep Hot and your partner sleeps Cold or visa versa? Whether Temperature fluctuations are internal or external, finding the right balance can be a challenge. Small space living can be challenging, but that doesn’t mean you should forgo personal style for functionality - there are ways to marry the two in perfect interior design harmony! The Furnishings || Don’t shy away from statement furnishings just because of your limited space - if you love it, make it work! Your bedroom is your sanctuary so if your way of packing a style punch is with a grand bed then do it, but be smart about it. Opt for a bed that has under-bed storage built in and/or invest in a short chest that can be place at the end of the bed for additional storage and a surface for décor. If space allows for a bedside table choose one that is glass or Lucite as this will give the room an airy feel. The Color || “Paint it white to enlarge the space…” we hear it all the time and while yes, there is truth in this go-to small space design standard, it doesn’t need to be your standard. Rules are made to be broken, right? If you are a lover of color then splash that bold hue on an accent wall or even the ceiling! You’ll discover that a pop of color will actually create depth in the room. Not a fan of accent walls? Hushed hues like blush, dove gray, and sage can be painted on all the walls creating a quiet impact that won’t go unnoticed. The Décor || Visual tricks like styling with mirrors and glass will definitely create the illusion of a larger room while adding a dash of glam, but there are a few other tricks! Try adorning one of your walls with one piece of large-scale art. This will create a feeling of grandeur without the chaos of a gallery wall. Have a spare corner? Combine the look of luxury with functionality by adding a stylish storage ottoman.

It’s ironic that most individuals hate the thought of investing in a new mattress, yet one of the most common statements made on a daily basis is “I just can’t wait to get into bed.” If you think about it, your mattress is the piece of furniture in your home that receives the most wear & tear simply because you are on it for 6-8 hours (hopefully) daily. So when you are shopping for that perfect mattress that will deliver the peaceful slumber we all crave, don’t forget to protect your investment! Temp Regulating || If you have a tendency to sweat in the middle of the night, it is imperative that you protect your mattress to inhibit bacteria from growing. Allergy Cover || Suffer from allergies? Be sure to choose an anti-allergy mattress cover. Encasing the entire mattress, these covers ensure complete protection from allergens, dust mites, and bed bugs. Rest easy knowing you and your mattress are protected. With winter fast approaching, you're likely spending more time indoors and finding ways to keep your home warm and cozy. Now is the time to drape a plush throw over your sofa, pile on some soft pillows, and curl up with a steaming hot cocoa and a good book by the fireplace. Don't have a built-in fireplace? Try an electric fireplace to create the illusion of a natural fire. It's really all about layering on comfort and setting a mood. Ambiance || There are many decorating strategies for building your unique comfort zone. Ultimately, you want it to be a peaceful, inviting sanctuary you can't wait to return to at the end of a long day. Try dark, saturated wall hues if you want the space to feel more enclosed – this works especially well in a small den or media room. Warm, natural wood tones and neutral-hued upholstery reinforce that calm, cozy ambiance. Add personal photos, artwork and antiques to make the space truly yours. Soft Fabrics || The simplest way to establish instant comfort is by layering on pillows and throws in sumptuous fabrics like velvet, chenille or faux fur. In a bedroom, try a tufted headboard for your bed, an upholstered chair or bench, and include curtains and bed skirts for added warmth. The more fabrics and textures you have in a room, the cozier it will feel. Layering higher pile rugs on your floor keeps things toasty underfoot. You can even layer throw rugs over sisal or carpeting to up the cozy factor. Lighting || One of the most important elements of any room is lighting. Think of how the inside of a rustic pine lodge or traditional Swiss chalet looks. If natural light is limited, candles, task lighting - or the previously mentioned electric fireplace - create a warm glow and raise spirits on a super cold winter day. Putting overhead lighting on dimmer switches also helps to create a cozy mood, especially in a dining room.
One of the charms of apartment living (especially in an urban setting) is more often than not the place you find will be in an older building; rich with the architectural details of the past, but lacking the modern storage of today… like closets. Whether you have 300 or 500 square feet to work with there are creative and decorative solutions to your storage conundrums… Bedroom || A closet-less bedroom may seem like the biggest disadvantage of your new space, but there are stylish solutions! Splurge on a bed with built-in storage or if you already love your bed utilize the space underneath to store linens and other items that you don’t need immediate access to. Rather than an armoire, invest in a mirrored chiffarobe instead. It is typically smaller in scale and combines a hanging wardrobe with drawers for better organization. If you need additional space for your hanging wardrobe, get a novelty rolling rack and showcase the outfits you’ve chosen to wear for the week – one less decision to make in the morning! Living Area || In a room notorious for having the most furniture it’s important to find pieces that can perform double duty in order to conserve space and keep your place looking uncluttered. When shopping for cocktail tables opt for one that has hidden storage. Don’t have enough room for a media console? Use a decorative credenza instead! Consider a silhouette that has tall legs so you can fit decorative baskets or boxes underneath for additional storage. Bathroom || The smallest of spaces takes the greatest creativity. Go vertical! Add shelving above your toilet and beside your vanity if cabinet space is lacking. Utilize apothecary jars to store all of your toiletries decoratively and hide those eyesores like cleaning products or towels in small baskets beside your toilet! Kitchen + Dining || If you’re living in 500sq feet or less, this is probably one open space that leads into the living area too. A great way to partition the two spaces is with a small-scale island that has storage and will double as your dining table – just add stools! Is drawer space limited? Use adhesive hooks on the inside of your cabinet doors to hang utensils that cannot fit.
We've all been there. Those nights when we can't seem to turn our brain off and just fall asleep. Not only is it frustrating in the moment, but it also makes for a very long, lethargic day. Here are a few relaxation tips that could help you reach that REM state. 1. Disconnect. || One hour before you go to sleep turn off all of your electronics. Our devices promote mental activity and that constant scrolling you are doing before bed is a contributing factor to your sleepless nights. 2. Tidy Up. || Keep your bedroom neat and organized. Cluttered room, cluttered mind. There is plenty of cute storage options that can help keep your room organized and you well-rested. 3. Take A Bath. || Break out the bath salts, aromatherapy candles, and pour yourself a glass of wine (or tea!). Since this is not typically an everyday indulgence it will put you in the mindset that bedtime is near! 4. Scentsations. || Scent your room with relaxing aromas like lavender, chamomile, or jasmine. Reed diffusers are the most effective way as they emit scents slowly and safely over a long period of time. 5. Dim the Lights. || Our bodies are very responsive to light. Exposure to bright lights promotes wakefulness which is another reason why it is important to put down your phone or tablet one hour before bed. Dimming your bedroom light will prepare your body for sleep. Controlling noise and temperature will also help.
Autumn has officially arrived. While we still have those pops of warm days here and there, most of us have swapped out our airy, barely-there summer wardrobe for a cozier look filled with silky cashmere and chunky cable knits. Just as your wardrobe shifts for the season, your home should also take on a more layered look that evokes a sense of coziness for the crisp days ahead… Introduce Earthy Hues || Burnt orange, mossy green, golden yellow… foliage-inspired tones that emulate the season will create a warming aura in your home. A new piece of artwork is a great way to incorporate these colors without negatively impacting your existing palette. Layer on Texture || Chunky cable knit blankets are having a moment right now and for good reason – it’s like wrapping yourself in a giant cozy sweater! Swap out those linen toss pillows on your sofa or bed for richer textures like velvet and chenille for a luxe look that won’t break the bank. Soften hard surfaces like dining chairs or entryway benches by draping a plush, sheepskin throw over them or place it on the floor beside your bed! Autumn Accents || Get creative with your autumnal décor this year. Adorn your home with “undone” floral arrangements in dark, moody hues that look as if they were freshly foraged from the wild. Give a subtle, classy nod to Halloween by creating a vignette of mini sugar pumpkins. These creamy white pumpkins are perfect for painting too so if you’re feeling crafty - paint some black for a witchy touch!

Sleep Surface Maintenance Caring for your mattress. Depending on the type of sleep surface you , there are a number of things you can do to care for, and protect your mattress. Below are several care tips for each type of sleep surface. Traditional Innerspring Ensure proper center support is used for queen, king and California king mattress sizes (this is also required for warranty protection). Use a high-quality, washable mattress protector to keep your mattress healthy and clean. Mattress protectors and mattress pads are not the same thing. Protectors utilize a breathable backing to keep moisture out of the mattress. This feature ensures a healthy sleep environment. A typical mattress “pad” will not have this feature. For two-sided traditional innerspring mattresses only, rotating and flipping in accordance to the manufacturer’s warranty will minimize body impressions and prolong the mattress’ comfort life. For single-sided traditional innerspring mattresses, rotate your mattress periodically, but DO NOT flip. Rotation will equalize wear and extend the mattress' comfort life. Jordan's Sleep Lab suggests rotating every two weeks for the first two months and four times a year thereafter. Do not remove the legal label from your mattress. This is needed to identify your appropriate warranty coverage. Memory Foam & Tempur-Pedic Ensure proper center support is used for queen, king and California king mattress sizes (this is also required for warranty protection). This foam is sensitive to temperature and humidity. It becomes firmer in lower temperatures and humidity levels. If your mattress has been delivered folded at temperatures below 40 degrees, you must allow time for it to adjust to the surrounding room temperature—forcing it open can cause damage. Never wash memory foam or Tempur material. Do not remove the legal label from your mattress. This is needed to identify your appropriate warranty coverage. Use a high-quality, washable mattress protector to keep your mattress healthy and clean. Mattress protectors and mattress pads are not the same thing. Protectors utilize a breathable backing to keep moisture out of the mattress. This feature ensures a healthy sleep environment. A typical mattress "pad" will not have this feature. Latex Foam Ensure proper center support is used for queen, king and California king mattress sizes (this is also required for warranty protection). Use a high-quality, washable mattress protector to keep your mattress clean and stain-free. Mattress protectors and mattress pads are not the same thing. Protectors utilize a breathable backing to keep moisture out of the mattress. This feature ensures a healthy sleep environment. A typical mattress "pad" will not have this feature. Do not remove the legal label from your mattress. This is needed to identify your appropriate warranty coverage. Rotate the mattress periodically. Do not flip. Jordan's suggests every 2 weeks for the first 3 months, and every 3 months thereafter. If you have a model in which there is a separate latex topper, rotate the topper periodically as well. Waterbed Ensure proper support for your waterbed. The additional weight of water requires extra-strong bed frame support. Consult a sleep technician for proper support recommendations. Add the supplied bottle of conditioner when first filling your new water mattress. Mattresses with individual tubes/cylinders come pre-conditioned. The initial supply of water mattress conditioner lasts three to six months. After this time, more must be added. Follow the instructions on the bottle for timeline of use. Always be very sure to replace the pull cap and seal from the valve after adding conditioner. Small, visible puncture holes may be repaired with a patch kit. Seam leaks cannot be repaired, but they are covered by the manufacturer’s warranty for a limited time (refer to your warranty card for terms and conditions). Airbed Ensure proper center support is used for queen, king and California king mattress sizes (this is also required for warranty protection). If your airbed is delivered by Jordan’s Sleep Lab, our drivers will complete the set-up. If you decided to pick up your airbed, assembly is quite simple. Do remember, however, to remove the plugs from the hoses and the hoses into the pump. Air mattresses do not get rotated. The hoses remain at the head of the sleep surface.

According to many sleep experts, 62% of American bedrooms have at least one sleeper who runs hot. It's a common issue that is due to many factors, including the type of mattress you have, room temperature, bedding and sleepwear fabrics, your partner's sleeping habits, and how close to bedtime you exercise or eat. Whether you experience any or all of these factors, the latest mattress innovations can help you reach the "Goldilocks state" – that "just right" sleep temperature. If you're having trouble achieving "just right," it may be time to invest in a mattress that's specially designed to cool your body down, not just when you get into bed, but throughout the night, so you wake up feeling totally rested and refreshed. Ideally, cool, dark and quiet are the three magic room factors that promote a better night's sleep. And, naturally, a "just right" mattress. Optimal Body Temperature || Just as your car reacts unfavorably when it overheats, the same is true of your body. This, in turn, can adversely affect your sleep, causing you to toss and turn. Experts have determined the best bedroom temperature for most adults is between 60 and 72 degrees Fahrenheit, and, in general, the cooler end of the range is ideal. Sleeping in a cooler room generally helps you fall asleep faster, promotes faster metabolism, and helps regulate hormone systems – especially significant for women at or reaching menopause. Cooling Mattresses || If your mattress is contributing to your overheating tendencies, consider switching to a mattress with cooling technology. The latest models, through a special combination of breathable, ventilating materials, can help you sleep up to eight degrees cooler than a regular mattress. In essence, these cooling mattresses help regulate your body temperature throughout the night, so you don't wake up hot halfway through your sleep cycle.   Sleep Accessories || In addition to your mattress, other factors affect your sleep temperature and overall sleep quality, starting with your pillow. Going beyond firm or plush, you may want to consider a cooling pillow that's cool to the touch and retains less heat than a regular pillow. You may also want to try other temperature-regulating accessories, such as pillow protectors that control moisture while you sleep. You should also wear 100% natural fibers like cotton for sleeping, since synthetics and blends are less breathable and can overheat the body.

Whether you call it rustic chic or modern farmhouse this contemporary home design trend is unwavering in popularity. Famed by the interior design talents of Joanna Gaines this look creates a warming sense of laid-back luxury that has many wanting to redecorate their home ASAP. The good news is that you don’t need to redecorate your entire home to achieve this look – just pepper your home with a few of these design elements… Reclaimed Wood || The options are endless with this ever-so-popular material. Even if it’s not reclaimed, any wooden furniture piece that is heavily distressed will do the trick! Larger scale furniture like a dining table, bed, or media console is a great way to anchor your design, and then you can build around it with other complimentary rustic pieces. Earthy Textiles || If you opt for a distressed dining table, pairing it with chairs upholstered in earthy textiles like linen or burlap is a great way to soften the look creating a balance in design. Area rugs in jute or any other natural fiber is another great way to incorporate this trend in your home; however these rugs are best for low-traffic areas so be mindful of where you place them. Primitive Lighting || Switching out your current lightbulbs for Edison bulbs is an easy way to give your home that farmhouse glow. They even make them in LED now so no need to worry about wasting energy! If you really want to get fancy, invest in some pendant lights or a lamp that exposes the entire Edison bulb!
Trends from fashion’s runway are making their way into the home, one furry piece at a time. Mongolian fur is the latest interior design craze and for touchably good reason. Incorporating fur into your home décor will create a cozy, inviting ambiance while adding a touch of opulence to the space. Trend lightly though - too many fur elements will make it look as though you’re styling an igloo instead of a home. Try adding it to a room that needs texture. Clean lines can be softened with a fur rug, throw, or pillow. While fur elements are great way to warm a modern space, it doesn’t mean that they won’t pair well with other sumptuous textures too. Elevate your bedroom by adding a fur bench to the end of the bed or creating a little reading nook with a fur director’s chair. Aim for lighter hued fur so when summer rolls around it will still feel luxurious, rather than seasonal.
From climate control to positioning to eco-friendly, the advancements in mattress technology have made shopping for a mattress easier and more enjoyable. Climate Control || That same technology that warms or cools the seats in your car is now available in a mattress! Many of us suffer from discomfort at night due to room climate – constantly searching for that cool spot on the bed or bundling up under the covers to stay warm. Everyone has individual needs when they sleep which can be challenging if you’re not sleeping alone. Mattresses with climate control create personalized sleep environments at a click of a button with their built-in heating, cooling, and ventilation system. Best part? Comfort levels aren’t compromised because these advanced mattresses come in all sizes and in a range of comforts from firm to plush. Power Base || If you suffer from acid reflux, fibromyalgia, or have respiratory, circulation, or heart problems consider investing in a power base. Not only will it relieve strain on your back, it also allows for ultimate comfort when reading or watching TV. Eco-Friendly || Going green? Many mattress companies are taking initiatives to reduce their carbon footprint whether it’s using earth-friendly products, recycled materials, or materials derived directly from nature itself. There are even mattresses that feature materials that are harvested from their own farms for a truly farm-to-bedroom experience.

Good sleep is something we attempt to achieve every single day of our lives. Unfortunately, few of us manage this on a regular basis. Our paths through life include events that affect our sleep. Newborns, new jobs, and even diets can greatly influence the quality and quantity of our sleep. In turn, poor sleeping habits can have a profound impact on our lives—safety, emotionality, performance, and even IQ. Our Sleep Lab technicians study sleeping disorders and health conditions so that they understand the challenges so many of us face with regard to our sleep. They are not doctors, but our technicians do thoroughly understand their role in helping you improve your sleeping environment and experience. To learn more about our technicians, visit Jordan's "Sleep Lab Technicians" page. Beyond sleep disorder centers, there are countless medical and science-based centers that focus on the important role sleep plays in our overall well being. Here are several resources on the subject: Better Sleep Council—Supported by the industry, this non profit organization is devoted to educating the public about the importance of sleep, and the role it plays in our overall health and quality of life. The program is the collaborative effort of Harvard Medical School and WGBH Education Foundation. National Sleep Foundation—An independent, non profit organization, this effort aims to improve public health and safety by promoting the understanding of sleep and sleep-related disorders and illnesses. It does this through public education, research, and advocacy. Sleep Products Safety Council—This non profit service organization was established in 1986 by the International Sleep Products Association. Its mission is to provide consumers with information, supporting research, and promotional actions that advance the safety of sleep products sold in the United States. Caring for your new little bundle of joy is going to be your first priority so having your nursery perfected before they arrive will give you peace of mind and your baby a peaceful haven to grow. Nursery Necessities || Give your baby room to grow by purchasing a crib that will convert into a toddler bed. Seek out a changing table that provides ample drawer space below so you can forgo the chest of drawers and have more room for other fun accents. Consider investing in a good quality glider chair. Your baby isn’t the only one that will be spending a lot of time in this nursery so go for a chair that will embrace you in absolute comfort while you rock your baby to sleep. Whimsical Walls || Whether you know the gender of your baby or not, there are fun alternatives to the traditional pink and blue walls. Modern, gender-neutral nurseries are having a moment right now and it’s a wonderful, minimalist trend that will blend your nursery with the rest of your home. If you’re painting the room beige, grey, or white experiment with a subtle playfully printed wallpaper in the same hue to mix it up! Not a fan of wallpaper? Design a focal wall of art that features pops of color and whimsical scenes; this will brighten the room while still maintaining the calm vibe set by the neutral wall color. Awe-inspiring Accents || While your baby won’t completely appreciate this until they are a little older, adding a teepee to your nursery is a chic way to create a little wonderland for them. Another playful touch is to design a reading nook complete with a bookshelf and a shag rug for your little one to roll around on. Not only will it add style to the nursery, but your baby will love the soft texture!
When they are kids their bedroom is a castle of imagination, but as they enter their transformative teen years, their bedroom morphs into a private sanctuary to take refuge when the trials of growing up are challenging them. A bedroom makeover will not only be a new bonding experience for both of you, but it will also be a fantastic learning experience for your teen! The Inspiration || Sit down with your teen and talk inspiration. How far are you willing to let them go to transform this space? Maybe it’s just a matter of switching up the furniture and décor or maybe painting will be involved too. Create a mood board to organize style ideas; Pinterest is a spectacular tool for this project as you both can pin to the same board and share your thoughts! The Budget || Once your teen has settled on a design that you both agree on, set a budget for them to stay within. Like a real-life game of monopoly, this will teach them what they can do with the resources available and the best way to allocate them. Maybe they’ll just end up with a new bedroom set because they fell in love with one that consumes their entire budget! Either way they will learn the valuable lesson of what to splurge on and what to save on in order to achieve the completed design. The Execution || Alas, it is time to put the design in motion! Many lessons are learned in this phase from painting techniques to flow of design, but one of the most important is the art of taking proper measurements. When in doubt, measure twice. This is why inspiration boards are so important too – if that dream bed doesn’t fit then your teen will already have a backup plan in place! Before buying any furniture, create a mock layout to get an idea of how the room will flow. The same rule applies when it’s time decorate the walls – arrange the pieces on the floor before hanging them on the wall so you have a visual guide.
You've seen it in almost every interior design magazine or decorating book… the use of symmetry to achieve that precise, balanced look in a room. A pair of wall sconces flanking a mirror above a fireplace mantel. A pair of identical nightstands bookending a bed. A pair of urn planters standing sentinel at a front door. You've also seen symmetrical elements where the two objects are not identical. For example, one planter is a different height or color than the other. Then, you've admired free-form spaces where elements are casually, randomly placed, with little or no pairs of anything. Whether you gravitate to highly ordered spaces or let it all hang out, the key to finding your comfort zone is to incorporate a balance of both. Symmetry || The main benefit of symmetry, and the reason it's so widely used, is because it creates a sense of calm in the viewer. It promotes order and harmonious balance, where everything is in its right place. It can also denote an aura of power. Think of ancient kings and queens (two heads are better than one?). Symmetry can also be formal and predictable, so in terms of interiors, too much of it can look uptight, and if you're the restless type, you may get bored with that pair of lamps or end tables. The key is to mix it up or change the position of things periodically if it suits you. Free-Form || The benefits of free-form style or asymmetry are that it creates tension or excitement, expresses individuality and informality, and a free-spirited, unstudied approach. It can also be sophisticated, out-of-the-box creative and cutting edge. The danger is that too much asymmetry can look chaotic and cluttered. For the most part, you don't want a room that says, "Yikes, get me out of here!" Or, "What happened?" There simply are times when pairs are better. A single bookend isn't very useful, for example.   The Mix || A good strategy is to determine the primary use for each room in your home, the feeling you want to convey, and how much space you have to bring your design vision to life. If you have a more formal living room, you probably want a pair of chairs flanking a fireplace (a single chair might look lonely). Or, if you're a couple sharing a bathroom, his and her sinks are likely desirable. If you're an artist or creative professional, you may only need one chair in your room, and plenty of open space to move furniture and other items around at will. Your needs may be less predictable and subject to change, depending on which projects you're involved with at any given time.

You’ve signed your way into adulthood by closing the deal on your first apartment. A fresh start and a blank canvas to make your own and call it home – how exciting is that?! Now it’s time to prioritize. Set a budget and make a list of the things you need, then decide on the décor you like best. Are you a modern maven or a vintage queen? Deciding which décor suits your personality will help you achieve a cohesive look when shopping for furniture. Choosing which furniture pieces to invest in at first will depend on the size of your apartment, but here are some ideas to consider… Mattress || Sounds mundane, but a great mattress will give you the ultimate beauty rest you need. It’s also a great investment because a quality mattress can last you 8-10 years, which will allow you to take it with you when you move into your first home. Make it a fun experience by choosing a stylish frame for it! If space is tight consider a frame that has built-in storage. Seating || The size of your space will dictate whether you’ll be a sofa, loveseat, or sectional. Sectionals are cumbersome so even though you may have the space to accommodate it, you also have to make sure you can get it into the apartment. A sofa or loveseat paired with a funky chair will create a cozy and stylish space. Complete the look with an upholstered ottoman so you can put your feet up! For tight spaces, put a tray on the upholstered ottoman to make it double as a coffee table. Dining || Any nook will do if you purchase the right table. Choosing a table with clean lines and a modern edge will allow you to get creative with the seating. Mix and match styles or use all upholstered chairs so they can be used in the living area too! Minimalist meets luxury is a great balance in design for your first apartment.         Now that you have the basics it’s time to decorate and personalize! Try to incorporate mirrors into your overall design. They create the illusion of a larger room while reflecting light from all angles. Storage can be a challenge, so strive to find sneaky solutions (like your bed frame or ottoman) in order to maximize your space. Lastly, bring a little of the outdoors inside with plants. Succulents and air plants are low-maintenance plants that are tiny enough to fit into a terrarium while still breathing life into your apartment!
Dear lawn mower – it’s time to move out. Of course it’s practical to store your outdoor accessories in your shed, but where’s the fun in that? The she/he shed trend has been taking off for a reason – it’s fun, nostalgic, and just slightly irresponsible (in the best kind of way). So whether you are building one from the ground up or converting the one that currently stands in your backyard, here are a few possibilities of what this micro retreat COULD be… The Literary Respite || Calling all bibliophiles, this one is for you! Create your own personal reading room to escape to when you need some alone time. Line the walls from floor to ceiling with built-in shelves to hold all your favorite books. Cozy it up by adding an area rug and an ultra-comfy oversized chair to curl up in when indulging in the latest bestseller. Finish off the look with proper lighting. If you have electricity available to you, consider a floor lamp. If not, line the floor and ceiling with battery-operated string lights and some candles so you can still read out there at night! The Pub Shed || Go out for a drink without ever needing a designated driver – transform your shed into an outdoor bar! Home bars come in many different lengths, provide ample storage, and can double as your drink prep space as some have built-in dry sinks too. Pair the bar with a few bar stools and you’re ready to serve your friends and family the most creative cocktails in the neighborhood. Don’t forget to install shelving to display your best ion! The Zen Sanctuary || Even if you aren’t a die-hard yogi, wouldn’t it be nice to have a tranquil spot to simply collect your thoughts or meditate? Find your serenity by painting your shed in soothing azure tones and laying down a plush rug scattered with floor pillows. Depending on the size of your space you could even add a daybed! The Hotel Room || Equipped with a super comfy bed dominated by plush pillows, a mini fridge filled with snacks, and a fluffy robe this tiny refuge could be better than a 5-star hotel. It’s only a matter of time before you’ll have to start taking reservations in advance – all your friends will want to stay! The Hobby Haven || Turn this space into your activity room. For the art lovers, this is your blank canvas. Keep your curated collection here like a gallery or create it on the walls of the shed like a mural. Are you a writer? Make this your chic office of inspiration. Just like hobbies, the ways you could transform this tiny space are truly endless.
From hundred year-old trees dripping with Spanish moss, to candy-painted homes to weathered cobblestones, the charm of the South tantalizes all of the senses. Achieve the same allure in your home with a few design elements that embody this design savvy locale… Raw Materials || Draw inspiration from the cobblestone streets and black iron balconies that adorn historical plantations to add a dash of structure to your home. Seek out an accent table with metal legs and a marble top or a weathered stone planter for the living room. Or make a statement in your bedroom with a beautiful iron canopy bed! Punchy Palette || The South is rich with color whether it be airy pastels or bright, tropical hues – is this room going to embody the liveliness of King Street in Charleston or the airy ambiance of a quaint street in Savannah? Chambray blue or pale yellow are fantastic color choices for large-scale furniture (like a sofa) since they both evoke a southern vibe and can work as neutrals.   Bountiful Botanicals || While a sprawling oak tree dripping with Spanish moss cannot fit inside your home, you can still create a calming nature by adding other botanicals. Fiddle leaf figs, monstera, and paradise palms are all tall, bountiful plants that will create a soothing tropical ambiance in your home. Don’t have a green thumb? Not to worry – snake plants and ponytail palms thrive on neglect so they are great for beginners.
A Matter of Trust When it comes to ing a new sleep surface, it's a matter of trust. Here are some suggestions when buying a new mattress. WHEN BUYING A MATTRESS, it's a matter of trust. You want to be sure you know who you're dealing with. It's very important that you do your homework. After all, not all mattresses or retail outlets are the same. We are confident that you’ll find the best mattress shopping experience at Jordan’s Furniture. So, while you’re out there shopping, keep the following tips in mind. Do Ask Questions. Buying a mattress is a “blind” purchase. That is, you really have no idea what’s inside. Jordan’s Sleep Lab technicians  show you what's inside a mattress, letting you feel and touch, which is so important. And, they'll explain the differences between and benefits of the various sleep systems. Do Your Homework. Make sure you can trust the retailer of your mattress purchase. Do some research on the Internet. Look at consumer reviews. Then, using a search engine, compare consumer reactions to all the various bedding retailers—including us. Be Wary. If you see a model at the Sleep Lab, then see it somewhere else for less, be sure to look carefully at all the features and characteristics of that other model. Chances are it’s either a different mattress or of a lesser quality. Just like TVs or appliances, mattresses come in many models. Look for Details. If you can't see what's inside the mattress , how can you compare products? At Jordan's Sleep Lab we show you what's inside and have fact tag information outlining everything inside of each mattress we sell. Know the Law. Jordan’s Furniture fully supports the Massachusetts State Legislature’s 2008 law requiring mattress retailers to label any bedding ever having been sold—even if returned in original packaging—as “previously purchased.” Jordan’s Furniture never has (and never will) re-sell a mattress as new. PLEASE NOTE: With Jordan’s Underprice Guarantee, you are assured the lowest price everyday. See the Underprice Policy page for more information.
Two-Sided Mattresses For those who like to flip, these mattresses have two sleep surfaces. FOR MANY BEDDING BRANDS, two-sided mattresses are a thing of the past. At Jordan's Sleep Lab, however, we feel consumers should be given a choice.Compared to today's single-sided mattresses, two-sided innerspring bedding just feels different. Visit a Sleep Lab location near you, and ask one of our Sleep Lab technicians to show you our two-sided mattresses.
Allergy Relief Allergen and dust mite levels are reduced by replacing old mattresses and using protection products. SLEEP IS UNCOMFORTABLE for thousands of allergy-sufferers in New England. For that reason, Jordan’s Sleep Lab wants to help you make your bedroom as healthy as possible. The most important products we can advise for addressing allergies are bed and pillow protectors that shield against dust mite infiltration. Dust Mite Facts Dust mites are a fact of life; they are NOT a reflection of housekeeping practices. Even if that lets you off the hook for their existence, you should know a little bit about dust mites before ing a protective mattress or pillow encasement. Here are a few facts: A Heavy Presence—The weight of the average mattress doubles after ten years due to dust mite infestation. The weight of the average pillow increases 10 percent in a single year. Breathe Easy—A Johns Hopkins University study showed that “mite population and allergen levels decreased by 90 percent or more” within a month of replacing mattress and pillow covers. "Mite-y" Numbers—According to the Center for Disease Control, a used unprotected mattress can have anywhere between 10,000 and 10 million dust mites in it (imagine sleeping with those every night). Tiny Allergens—The average dust mite is 0.5 mm in length, not visible to the naked eye. Over 7,000 dust mites can fit on the size of an average human fingernail. Multiplying Discomfort—Male dust mites only live an average of 19 days, while the female dust mite can live up to 70 days. The female dust mite lays as many as 200 eggs in the last five weeks of her life. Common Ailment—Nearly 20 million Americans suffer from symptoms relating to dust mite allergies. Dust Mite Allergies Many mite allergy sufferers are not aware of their allergy. Here are some of the most common symptoms related to dust mite allergies: Sneezing Runny Nose Itchy, Red, or Watery Eyes Nasal Congestion Frequent Nose-Rubbing (especially in children) Itchy Nose, Roof of Mouth, or Throat Postnasal Drip Cough Facial Pressure and Pain Frequent Awakening Swollen, Blue-Colored Skin Under the Eyes

Its official - spring is finally here and while it may not feel like it quite yet, there are plenty of things you can do around your home from your kitchen to your bedroom to put you in the mindset of this refreshing season… Curate Your Clutter || It’s time look at all those little dust collectors that are lining your surfaces and ask yourself: do I love it? – does it add value to my space? – is it functional? – If the answer is no to any of these questions then let it go. De-cluttering your home will create an instant refresh and feeling of renewal. Pops of Color || Switch out those dark and stormy hues for revitalizing and vibrant tones that will awaken your senses. Pantone’s Color of the Year, Greenery, is nature’s neutral and easy to incorporate into many home décor styles. Incorporating pops of color into your décor is as simple as adding toss pillows or throws to your sofa or changing your bedding. Switch It Up || We all have a tendency to become very complacent with the configurations of our rooms. Spring is a great time to shake things up a bit and experiment with different ones! Not only will it give the illusion of something new, it will also enable you to clean areas that are often neglected. New Life || Breathe new life into your home by decorating with plants. Terrariums are a stylish way of incorporating plants into your home décor and a great option for small spaces! For functionality, a windowsill herb garden is the way to go. Not only will it look pretty and smell spectacular, it will also be your one-stop seasoning shop!
Leather Maintenance Try these tips for extending the life of your leather-upholstered furniture. Caring for Leather Furniture Cleaning and conditioning leather using the Peace of Mind leather products helps keep surfaces clean, soft and supple. It is recommended to clean and condition leather four times a year, more often in dry and/or sunny rooms, homes with pets and high-use rooms. Bonded leather and bi-cast leather do not need to be maintained using cleaning and protection products. Avoid allowing caustic substances to come in contact with leather furniture. Some examples of caustic substances would be chlorine from swimming pools, salts, ammonia, bleach, hair products, and animal flea and tick treatments. Leather surfaces can stretch over time, resulting in a relaxed appearance on seat cushions and the backs of seating surfaces. Sit on the cushions, not the backs and arms of sofas, chairs, etc. Sitting on backs and arms can cause structural damage. Ottomans, recliner footrests, and the end of an opened sleep sofa are not designed to hold body weight; if sat on, these pieces can break. If a (fifth) center support leg is included with a sofa, screw it into place (the middle) to maintain the structural integrity of the frame. Often, the center support leg is suspended ½" above the floor, making contact with the floor as weight is applied to the sofa. Maintain screw-in legs by tightening when needed. Do not over-tighten! Move leather furniture by lifting it. Dragging or pushing furniture can damage furniture and floors. To reduce the movement of upholstery and sectional pieces on hardwood floors, place furniture cups with rubber bottoms under the legs. Cushion Care and Expectations New seat cushions can feel 'firmer'. To accelerate the softening process, carefully walk barefoot on the cushions on a hardwood floor. In time, as they are used, cushions will soften, and can become compressed. Regular flipping and rotating the seat cushions will help maintain their appearance, plus maximize performance and comfort. Like rotating tires on a car, rotating the placement of seat cushions will extend the life of the cushions. Redistribute the fill in back cushions to help maintain the shape and improve comfort. Understanding and Maintaining the Appearance of Leather As leather is a natural product, differences in color, texture and unique characteristics are to be expected. Scarring, insect bites and wrinkles can be visible on all leather furniture. Cleaning and conditioning leather using the Peace of Mind leather products helps keep surfaces clean, soft and supple. The Peace of Mind conditioner, when used in tandem with the cleaner, re-moisturizes surfaces and helps keep them looking their best. It is recommended to clean and condition leather four times a year, more often in dry and/or sunny rooms, homes with pets, and high-use rooms. Leather is not stain-proof. Quickly blotting spills from leather surfaces helps prevent stains from setting. Care should be taken to avoid caustic substances from coming in contact with leather furniture. Caustic substances can cause fading, cracking, peeling and discoloration. Some examples of caustic substances would be chlorine from swimming pools, salts, ammonia, bleach, hair products, and animal flea and tick treatments. Body and hair oil from people and pets can discolor and stain leather. Hand cream, hair styling products can be absorbed by leather surfaces, resulting in a stain. Regular cleaning and conditioning with the Peace of Mind products can reduce damage from surface spills, body and hair oil, and cosmetic creams and lotions. Odors: That "Leather Smell" New leather furniture often has a unique odor. A variety of oils and waxes are used in processing leather that adds to the "leather smell". The odor is not harmful, and will dissipate in a short amount of time. Air out the room by opening doors and windows if possible to reduce the smell of the new furniture. Using dryer sheets, or coffee grinds in an open container, near the furniture can help neutralize any odors. Pets and Leather Furniture: Maintenance is Key! Regular cleaning and conditioning with the Peace of Mind leather care products is especially important in homes with pets.  Please keep in mind that damage caused by pets is not covered by either the manufacturer or the Uniter's warranties. Without care, animal skin and hair oil can roughen and discolor leather surfaces. Regular use of the Peace of Mind leather products will help maintain the appearance of leather. If pets are allowed to lie on leather surfaces, quickly wiping the cushions with a damp (not wet!) cloth can help remove caustic oils. Unfortunately, some cats will claw leather furniture, just as they claw fabric furniture. Cats can be attracted by the smell of the oils used in leather furniture production. Cats can puncture leather with claws as they jump off, leaving small holes in the surface.
Upholstery Maintenance Here are some great tips for maintaining the beauty of your fabric-covered furniture. Caring for Upholstery Furniture Professional cleaning is recommended. Using the brush attachment, vacuum fabric surfaces regularly to remove debris. A lint-roller can be used as well. Use a whisk broom or soft brush on feather and down cushions; do not vacuum. Move upholstery furniture by lifting it. Dragging or pushing furniture can damage furniture and floors. To reduce the movement of upholstery and sectional pieces on hardwood floors, place furniture cups with rubber bottoms under the legs. Cleaning codes are used as a guide when having upholstery professionally cleaned. Please click the link below for more information on cleaning codes: Click here for more information on Stain Removal and Fabric Cleaning Products. Redistribute the fill in back cushions to help maintain the shape and improve comfort.Color Change and FadingFabrics can fade or change color when exposed to direct or indirect sunlight. Natural fabrics— cotton, linen, and silk— are most susceptible to color loss. Synthetic fabrics—polyester and acrylic—are less likely to fade. To minimize fading, avoid placing upholstery pieces in direct sunlight. Tinted window treatments can help reduce fading.Fabric PerformanceMany fabrics are prone to pilling when first exposed to friction. Pilling is the shedding of excess fibers, and is usually found in "high use" areas such as on seat cushions and seat backs. Pilling subsides in time. The use of a fabric shaver—such as the type that's used on clothing—controls pilling. Fabrics with a raised nap or smooth, shiny texture—like velvet or some chenille fabrics—often show shading. (Light and dark areas) Regular vacuuming with a brush attachment can help even-out the appearance of the fabric. Fabric can stretch. Most common in seating areas, this can result in a relaxed appearance called "puddling." Flipping and turning seat cushions regularly can help minimize puddling.Odors: That "New Sofa Smell"New upholstery furniture often has an odor. The odor is not harmful, and will dissipate in a short amount of time. Air out the room by opening doors and windows if possible to reduce the smell of the new furniture. Using dryer sheets, or coffee grinds in an open container, near the furniture can help neutralize any odors.Washable Slipcover CareBefore washing, contact our Customer Service Department (1-866-8-Jordans) for help. If your fabric is washable, click on the link for step-by-step laundering instructions: Slipcover care handout Non-washable slipcovers, or for customers who choose not to wash their slipcovers, should be cleaned by an upholstery cleaner in the home, on the frame.

From Pantone to Sherwin Williams to Behr the color curators have chosen what they anticipate to be the most popular hues for 2018. Ranging from deep and saturated to muted and serene there is certainly a color for every design aesthetic… Pantone: Ultra Violet || The most talked about color reveal of the year might be a tad too cosmic for your walls, but this invigorating hue can be great in small doses! Abstract artwork or an area rug are good ways to experiment with this bright color. Behr: In the Moment || This watery-gray hue evokes a calming vibe that would be great for a bedroom, a master bath, or any other room you want to turn into a tranquil sanctuary. Right at the crossroads of saturated and muted this tone works well as the neutral in the room. Sherwin Williams: Oceanside || A jewel tone that perfectly blends blues and greens to create a hue that is reminiscent of the serene coastline of your favorite beach. Whether you paint your walls with it or find a similar hue in an accent piece like a side chair or ottoman you can’t go wrong! Benjamin Moore: Caliente || This fiery red has purple undertones giving it a rich saturation that is a little more soothing to the eye than an orange-based red. Try it as an accent wall in your living room – this color really pops when paired with a cream or white sofa!   Pinterest: Sage || While Pinterest technically isn’t a color expert, it’s certainly the leading forum of inspiration for life in general and the most pinned color is sage. Step aside griege, because sage is stealing your thunder as the new neutral. Out of all the colors listed this hue has already made its debut in the form of walls, sofas, bedding, even kitchen cabinets!
The industry’s top home furnishing designers gathered in High Point, NC to showcase their latest collection to prospecting retail buyers and interior designers for the biannual High Point Market. High Point Market is the equivalent to Fashion Week in the fashion world – it is the largest home furnishings industry trade show in the world, providing insight to new products and the latest trends in home décor… Mixed Media || Unique materials like concrete, metal, and stone are paired with more traditional elements like glass and wood to create an unexpected twist on classic silhouettes. Highlights include pieces like a writing desk or sofa table that feature metal bases topped with stone. Va Va Velvet || What once was a textile we only saw in the fall and winter months is now making an appearance in spring and summer! Slightly lighter in texture for the season, this fabric is being shown in both airy pastels and bold brights from pillows to ottomans to add a fun punch of color to your home. Flora & Fauna || While it’s not out of the ordinary to see an abundance of floral patterns for the warmer months, this design staple was spiced up with a dash of fauna this season! Birds and blooms mingle with leafy vines on poufs, bedding, and accent chairs. Nature's Neutrals || Bring the outdoors inside with textural raffia, rattan, or wicker. Furniture constructed of these natural elements provide a lighter look for the season while maintaining a refined look. Go coastal with the addition of shiplap or rope elements. Perfectly Imperfect || The Japanese design aesthetic known as wabi sabi – the art of living with imperfection, was prominent at this market. The trend highlights the inherent beauty of asymmetry and furniture pieces that are designed to purposefully look unfinished.

Keep Rugs Beautiful Jordan's Furniture offers these tips for care of rugs and runners. Care and Maintenance for Area Rugs Professional cleaning is recommended when rugs are soiled. Rugs should be vacuumed regularly to remove dirt and abrasive particles. Avoid vacuuming fringe and side selvage areas. Vacuuming the fringe can result in it becoming shredded or torn away from the body of the rug. Hooked rugs and braided rugs should be vacuumed using the "bare floor" setting on the vacuum to prevent damage. Using a beater bar (that's designed for use on a rug or carpet setting) can snag loose fibers and cause pulls and runs in the surface. Rotating rugs 180 degrees annually will alternate wear patterns. The use of furniture cups under extra-heavy furniture helps prevent permanent damage to rug fibers. Rug Padding Quality rug pads provide support and stability to the area rug, ensuring better performance and appearance. Rubber- bottom rug pads keep rugs from slipping and moving. Quality solid surface rug pads (not thin or waffled mesh pads) will protect the surface of the floor underneath, minimizing scratching and damage to floor finishes. Quality solid surface rug pads (not thin or waffled mesh pads) prevent dye transfer from the area rug to floors underneath- including wall-to-wall carpet. Quality solid surface rug pads with anti- slip rubber bottoms keep rugs from creeping, wrinkling and cupping under furniture legs. Quality solid surface rug pads with anti-slip rubber bottoms prevent rugs from being stretched out of shape. Quality rug pads with a rubber bottom layer prevent moisture stains from seeping through the rug, damaging floors- great for homes with pets! Thin vinyl rug pads (non-skid or waffle) can stick to the floor over time, or create excess heat build-up under rugs, damaging floors. Rubber pads are recommended as they "breathe" and are less likely to stick or affect hard surfaces. On the Surface: Pilling, Shedding, Sprouts and Pulls New area rugs can shed excess yarns through pilling and shedding. Certain types of rugs, such as tufted rugs, are more prone to shedding. Frequent, thorough vacuuming can reduce shedding time. Customers with allergies might consider machine woven and hand knotted rugs instead, as these rug types are less likely to shed fibers. Yarns that extend up from the surface of the rug pile-"sprouts and pulls"- should be cut with sharp scissors as needed. Pulling on sprouted yarns in a hooked rug can result in permanent damage. Dye Variations Dye Variations: In many rug types, especially handmade rugs, horizontal dye variations are to be expected. Known as abrash, it sometimes appears to have a "striped" look. Due to the natural variations in the dyes, as found in hand knotted rugs, or intentionally woven into the pile, abrash adds to the wonderfully rustic appearance of the rug. Odors: That "New Rug Smell" Most new furniture, including rugs, often has an odor. The odor is not harmful, and will dissipate in a short amount of time. Air out the room by opening doors and windows if possible to reduce the smell of the new furniture. Using dryer sheets, or coffee grinds in an open container, near the furniture can help neutralize any odors.

Natural vs. Simply Green What's the Difference? Mattresses can be Eco-Friendly and natural too! Many of our mattresses have an Eco-Friendly or natural message to them. We label our online product with the icons below for easy recognition. Our Green Leaf System In order to help our customers differentiate Earth-friendly Sleep Lab products from other merchandise, we affix our own green leaf icons to them. There are two different Sleep Lab product icons you'll see on this website: LIGHT GREEN leaves are applied to Earth-friendly products. DARKER GREEN indicates natural materials are in use. Natural materials are grown and/or raised from plants, animals or the ground. These components exist in nature, not made or caused by humankind. Organic is a bit different than natural. Unlike certified organic products, natural products are permitted to employ pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, and/or hormones during the growing and raising of raw materials. Simply Green Many of the products featured at Jordan’s Furniture are considered green. These products use components designed to minimize the impact on our environment. Jordan's Sleep Lab refers to these products as Simply Green. Simply Green may mean using less petro chemicals, or making use of recycled materials, or using natural components in the finished product. All good considerations for the environment. If you are looking to support products that fit ecology into their manufacturing, look for the Simply Green leaf symbol outlined above. Visit a Sleep Lab location near you, and ask one of our Sleep Lab technicians to explain more about our organic and simply green options.
