Baseball and softball equipment for underserved youth
In partnership with the Red Sox Foundation
Taunton, MA – It’s been a long year for everyone but especially for kids so it’s time for them to get back on the ball field. Jordan’s Furniture is proud to announce the launch of their 2021 Double Play Youth Baseball Donation Program, a project that will supply like-new baseball and softball equipment to youth in underserved communities for the upcoming season. In partnership with the Red Sox Foundation’s Reviving Baseball in Inner-Cities (RBI) Program, equipment will be distributed to help the Foundation in its mission of closing the opportunity gap for players and coaches in our communities, which has widened considerably in the wake of COVID-19.
Starting this week and running through June 13, equipment donations can be dropped off at any Jordan’s Furniture location in MA, RI, NH, ME, and CT, including their Taunton Distribution Center. All donations must be in like-new, clean condition. Equipment includes bats (metal only), catcher’s equipment, gloves, cleats (metal and plastic), baseballs (new), and softballs (new).
“We have been running our youth baseball donation program for over 10 years now because we have seen in past seasons that the equipment gets directly in the hands of kids who need it. And the need does not end,” said Eliot Tatelman, President of Jordan’s Furniture. “Equipment is so expensive and there are thousands of kids that just cannot afford to play sports. We are excited to, again, team up with the Red Sox Foundation…the perfect partner!”
“As we work to get our youth back on the field after what has been such a devastating year, we are deeply grateful to Jordan’s Furniture for the opportunity to once again partner together for the Double Play Program,” said Bekah Salwasser, Executive Vice President of Social Impact for the Red Sox and the Red Sox Foundation Executive Director. “Now, perhaps more than ever, our mission to promote equity and provide access and opportunity for every youth to play baseball and softball is critical. We couldn’t return to play without this equipment, and we’re proud to work alongside Jordan’s to leverage both of our platforms to inspire recovery, rebirth, and hope in the season ahead.”
Other community partners include the New Haven YMCA Youth Center and the South Portland Little League.

This year, it’s not about the season … it’s about one game! And with starters on the pitching staff like Eduardo Rodriguez, Garrett Richards, Nathan Eovaldi, Martín Pérez, Nick Pivetta, and Chris Sale, a No Hitter could definitely happen! In 2007, we gave away over $30 million dollars of free furniture to 25,000 families when they won the World Championship”, says Tatelman. “We are always rooting for the Red Sox! We hope to help find forever homes for lots of great kids!”

Please join us in visiting Jordan’s Furniture’s South Portland location for a one-of-a-kind family-focused experience.”
A Family for ME works in partnership with OCFS, Spurwink, and DHHS on The Heart Gallery that has dozens of locations throughout the state of Maine. All Heart Gallery displays are continually updated, making sure that the current waiting children are the ones highlighted in the display.
Over 16 years as a primary partner in Coats For Kids Program
From October 2020 through February 2021, all Jordan’s Furniture locations accepted like-new, gently-used winter coats for all ages, as a corporate partner and primary sponsor of Coats For Kids, a program run by Caring Partners Inc. The program provides winter garments for both children and families to area families in-need. Through the generosity of Jordan’s customers, a record-setting 10,205 winter coats were collected. All coats were cleaned free of charge by Anton's Cleaners. The donated coats were distributed to area families by partnering organizations and social service agencies in all Jordan’s communities in MA, NH, RI, CT and ME.
This season was especially challenging due to Covid. There were many more families in financially difficult situations so the program was extended, to be able to generate more donations and , therefore, help more families. It worked! Countless customers donated thousands of coats that were distributed throughout New England.
Jordan’s Furniture has been a 16+year sponsor and partner with Coats For Kids. “We are so proud to be an integral part of this important program that gives back directly to the community”, says Eliot Tatelman, President of Jordan’s Furniture. “Especially this year, it was so important for us to continue our community outreach, despite the challenges that we have all encountered. We wanted to address the hardships of families that are right here in our communities.” Tatelman concludes “ I am glad that we could play a role in helping them out during this very difficult winter. And our friends at Anton's Cleaners, who created the program, do such a great job! We are happy to support this wonderful initiative.”
The mission of Coats for Kids is simple, “Anyone who needs a coat will have one.” Since the program’s conception by Anton's in 1995, over one million coats have been collected and distributed. Coats For Kids is a Caring Partners program and is sponsored by Jordan’s Furniture, Anton's Cleaners, and Enterprise Bank.
from Jordan's Furniture staff for the 2020 holiday season
During the unprecedented 2020 holiday season due to Covid, the employees of Jordan's Furniture generously donated gifts for the children at eight (8) Head Start schools within the company's communities. Over 550 wrapped holiday gifts were delivered to the schools late December, making the challenging holidays a bit brighter for lots of local children. The gifts were distributed to the Head Start programs within the neighborhoods where there are Jordan's store locations. It was all part of the Jordan's Furniture 2020 Head Start Holiday Gift Program. The gift deliveries were made to the schools in time for the teachers to distribute them to the students in the classroom or for the parents to use on Christmas morning. Jordan's staff members, called the J-Team, who participated in the internal Holiday Gift Program chose a specific child and then purchased and wrapped a gift to donate to him or her. It is one of the most rewarding Jordan's deliveries made all year.
"Thank you doesn't seem enough to say", said one Head Start teacher when finding out about the program. "Jordan's has left me speechless, smiling and has given me hope during this difficult time."
Eliot Tatelman, President of Jordan's Furniture said, "We are happy to continue our annual holiday gift program to children in our communities. During this extremely difficult time, so many families are struggling to simply pay bills, never mind purchasing toys or presents for the kids," continued Eliot. "It means a lot to be able to continue this Jordan's tradition."
Jordan's Furniture has partnered with area Head Start programs during the holiday seasons since 2009, with all donated gifts directly benefiting the children and the families within the schools. Head Start programs promote school readiness of children ages birth to five from low-income families by supporting their development in a comprehensive way. The programs within Head Start support early learning, health, and family well-being. Jordan's Furniture is proud to make the holidays brighter for these very special children.
Jordan’s hosts the WPLR Chaz & AJ Toy Drive at Jordan’s Furniture New Haven
The one-week collection drive raises over $166,000!
The WPLR morning team of Chaz & AJ knew that they needed to change one of their annual traditions that normally includes a live broadcast in front of hundreds of fans, musical performances, and special guest interviews. Their highly celebrated Toy Drive raises money and toys for area organizations that support children in-need. Due to Covid, however, the spectator event could not take place as usual.
Instead, the 2020 WPLR Chaz & AJ Toy Drive consisted of a one-week collection drive at the Jordan’s Furniture New Haven store. Even during the unprecedented time of a pandemic, the event raised $166,546.38 in toys and money for the partnering charities. Guests were asked to come to the store anytime during the week to drop off their donations. Members of the WPLR Morning Team were on-site each day to meet guests and accept the donations.
“Jordan’s customers and WPLR listeners are awesome!”, said Jordan’s President Eliot Tatelman. “Even during a global pandemic, these great folks came out to donate toys and money for kids in their community who are going through a tough time. Amazing.”
Proceeds from the toy drive benefited five (5) local children’s charities including Central CT Coast YMCA, McGivney Community Center Inc., Boys and Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley, Team Inc, and the Center for Family Justice. This year’s fundraiser was the 5th year that Jordan’s hosted it. Thank you to all of the donors and to the entire WPLR team. Jordan’s Furniture is happy to host the annual toy drive and to support such wonderful organizations.
