from Jordan's Furniture staff for the 2020 holiday season
During the unprecedented 2020 holiday season due to Covid, the employees of Jordan's Furniture generously donated gifts for the children at eight (8) Head Start schools within the company's communities. Over 550 wrapped holiday gifts were delivered to the schools late December, making the challenging holidays a bit brighter for lots of local children. The gifts were distributed to the Head Start programs within the neighborhoods where there are Jordan's store locations. It was all part of the Jordan's Furniture 2020 Head Start Holiday Gift Program. The gift deliveries were made to the schools in time for the teachers to distribute them to the students in the classroom or for the parents to use on Christmas morning. Jordan's staff members, called the J-Team, who participated in the internal Holiday Gift Program chose a specific child and then purchased and wrapped a gift to donate to him or her. It is one of the most rewarding Jordan's deliveries made all year.
"Thank you doesn't seem enough to say", said one Head Start teacher when finding out about the program. "Jordan's has left me speechless, smiling and has given me hope during this difficult time."
Eliot Tatelman, President of Jordan's Furniture said, "We are happy to continue our annual holiday gift program to children in our communities. During this extremely difficult time, so many families are struggling to simply pay bills, never mind purchasing toys or presents for the kids," continued Eliot. "It means a lot to be able to continue this Jordan's tradition."
Jordan's Furniture has partnered with area Head Start programs during the holiday seasons since 2009, with all donated gifts directly benefiting the children and the families within the schools. Head Start programs promote school readiness of children ages birth to five from low-income families by supporting their development in a comprehensive way. The programs within Head Start support early learning, health, and family well-being. Jordan's Furniture is proud to make the holidays brighter for these very special children.
Jordan’s hosts the WPLR Chaz & AJ Toy Drive at Jordan’s Furniture New Haven
The one-week collection drive raises over $166,000!
The WPLR morning team of Chaz & AJ knew that they needed to change one of their annual traditions that normally includes a live broadcast in front of hundreds of fans, musical performances, and special guest interviews. Their highly celebrated Toy Drive raises money and toys for area organizations that support children in-need. Due to Covid, however, the spectator event could not take place as usual.
Instead, the 2020 WPLR Chaz & AJ Toy Drive consisted of a one-week collection drive at the Jordan’s Furniture New Haven store. Even during the unprecedented time of a pandemic, the event raised $166,546.38 in toys and money for the partnering charities. Guests were asked to come to the store anytime during the week to drop off their donations. Members of the WPLR Morning Team were on-site each day to meet guests and accept the donations.
“Jordan’s customers and WPLR listeners are awesome!”, said Jordan’s President Eliot Tatelman. “Even during a global pandemic, these great folks came out to donate toys and money for kids in their community who are going through a tough time. Amazing.”
Proceeds from the toy drive benefited five (5) local children’s charities including Central CT Coast YMCA, McGivney Community Center Inc., Boys and Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley, Team Inc, and the Center for Family Justice. This year’s fundraiser was the 5th year that Jordan’s hosted it. Thank you to all of the donors and to the entire WPLR team. Jordan’s Furniture is happy to host the annual toy drive and to support such wonderful organizations.
