Jordan’s celebrates National Adoption Day with a private event at The Enchanted Village
In honor of 2012 National Adoption Day, Jordan’s Furniture invited families who adopted through foster care to a special, private event at the Enchanted Village on Sunday morning, November 18th. Hundreds of families enjoyed the sights and sounds of the iconic display, along with a catered breakfast, roving entertainment, Polar Express 4D The Ride and LITE, the holiday laser light/music show. Both Eliot Tatelman, Jordan’s President and CEO, and Angelo McLean, DCF Commissioner were on hand to greet the guests and enjoy the activities with the families. The event was to honor the hundreds of families who open their homes and their hearts to the children living in foster care by creating a permanent home for these special kids.
Hosted by Jordan’s Furniture in the Reading location
In partnership with the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE), Jordan’s Furniture held the 2012 Adoption Option on Sunday morning, October 21st in their Reading store. The free event was open to anyone interested in the adoption of children or sibling groups from foster care. It was hosted by Jordan’s President/CEO Eliot Tatelman.
Over 600 guests attended the Adoption Option, including families interested in adoption, children in foster care, social workers, experienced adoptive families, and volunteers. There were activities and food in the Beantown area of the store, an Orientation in the IMAX Theater, and workshops in the showrooms. Guests learned about the adoption process, talked to social workers one-on-one, and heard from experienced adoptive families. Participants also met children and interacted with them through fun activities, if they chose.
The goal of The Adoption Option was to find permanent, loving families for the waiting children. We hope to see lots and lots of “matches” over the next couple of months, as a result of the event. It was a fantastic morning, filled with a lot of communication.
All five store locations will serve as donation drop-off centers.

With the new school year in full swing, Jordan’s Furniture and Cradles to Crayons wanted to make sure that every child started the school year off on the right foot. From August 1, 2012 through September 9, 2012, Jordan’s collected new or like-new school clothes and shoes at all locations, including the Taunton Distribution Center. Cradles To Crayons’ “Ready For School” program makes sure that donations help children (infant to 12 years old) living in homeless or low-income situations.
Using a full tractor trailer, Jordan’s Furniture made the delivery of donations to the Cradles To Crayons warehouse. To quote the organization’s Executive Director Lynn Margherio, “We are still in awe at the quantity! It will make a big difference in helping the community of families that we serve.” The Jordan’s customers truly responded when asked by Eliot through radio announcements to help children in-need get ready for school.
Additionally, through the partnership with Cradles To Crayons, Jordan’s was able to support social services agencies in Rhode Island and New Hampshire, so that the donations that came through those stores went to families in those communities.
Jordan’s Furniture is proud to support Cradles To Crayons and look forward to future partnerships to help local children and families in-need.
The Tempurpedic IMAX Theaters at Jordan’s Furniture will be closed from September 17 through 28 so that we can upgrade our projectors to digital.

Jordan's Furniture Hosts Adoption Summer Mixer
to find homes for children in foster care
Over a hundred children in foster care, families from around Massachusetts and scores of social workers all came together on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Assumption College, with one goal in mind…to find permanent homes for some of the hundreds of older children in foster care. The event was sponsored by Jordan's Furniture.
"Jordan's has been a part of the adoption and foster care community for over 12 years now", says Jordan's President and CEO Eliot Tatelman, referring to the dozens of Jordan's initiatives that have occurred over the years. "Once we saw how many kids, especially older kids, who were looking for families, we started to do whatever we could to help out."
Private invitations were sent to families throughout Massachusetts who have already been home-studied and MAPP Trained. This means that they are ready to adopt. Invitations were also sent out to social workers of the many older children (ages 7 to 16) currently in foster care and legally ready for adoption.
The goal of "The Adoption Summer Mixer" was to make the connection between child and adult. The event included morning workshops, a catered lunch, and an afternoon carnival. "We were excited to see the magic happen at our adoption event" concludes Tatelman. "These connections can change the life of both the children and the families. It is what it is all about and is much more rewarding than just selling furniture!"
In partnership with the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) and the Department of Children & Families (DCF), Jordan's has organized dozens of adoption events and countless foster care recruitment efforts over the years. Due to these efforts, over 210 children have found permanent homes. The Jordan's projects have included underwriting adoption events, coordinating aggressive foster family recruitment programs, and financing media campaigns to bring awareness to the cause.

Jordan’s Furniture hosts Walk for Adoption
On Sunday morning, May 20th, over 500 Walkers participated in the 2012 Walk For Adoption at Jordan's Furniture in Taunton. The event raised $74,000 for the programs of the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange, helping to find permanent homes for children and youth in foster care.
Jordan’s Furniture to Host Walk, this Sunday May 20, 2012
Boston, MA- “What makes a house feel like a home?” asks Jordan’s Furniture CEO Eliot Tatelman. “It’s not furniture,” comes the surprising answer, “It’s family. But thousands of kids living right here in Massachusetts are waiting for all the comforts of home AND family,” he added.
That’s why Jordan’s Furniture, a long-time champion for children in state foster care, is hosting A Walk Home: the Walk for Adoption this Sunday morning, May 20 at the Jordan’s Furniture’s Taunton facility.
The Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE), in partnership with Jordan’s Furniture, is organizing the 3rd annual Walk for Adoption to benefit its work to recruit adoptive parents for children and teens in state foster care. Over 2,000 local children are currently growing up in temporary foster care while waiting for permanent, safe, loving homes. MARE’s programs to find potential adoptive families include Wednesday’s Child on WBZ TV, children’s profiles in newspapers statewide, and the Heart Gallery portrait exhibit displayed in libraries, stores, and shopping malls. Through these public programs and behind the scenes work, MARE has helped more than 5,750 children leave foster care for permanent families over the past 54 years.
In attendance will be Jordan’s President/CEO Eliot Tatelman, NECN’s Eileen Curran, and WCVB’s Bob Halloran who will welcome guests and kick-off the Walk at 9:30am.
The Walk for Adoption is a fun-filled celebration of adoption, featuring a 5K (or shorter) non-competitive walk as well as face painting, balloon twisting, spin art and other crafts, photobooth, entertainment, raffles, games, and refreshments. Pat Patriot, the New England Patriots mascot, and Samboni, the mascot of the Providence Bruins, will also be on hand, along with Taunton Police and Fire exhibits.
Walk participants can register online at www.firstgiving.com/mare by noon Friday, or in person at the Walk. Registration starts at 9:00 am at Jordan’s Furniture, 450 Revolutionary Drive, E. Taunton, MA. Over 400 walkers and supporters from adoption agencies, families, and businesses have already signed up for the Walk. Prizes will be awarded for top fundraising individuals and teams.
MARE’s Walk for Adoption is sponsored by Jordan's Furniture, StoneTurn Group, WebsterOneSource, WickedLocal, Brookline Bank, Hannaford Supermarkets, and Kohl’s Cares for Kids.
For more information on A Walk Home, MARE’s Walk for Adoption, or to learn about adoption from foster care, contact MARE at 800-882-1176, 617-54-ADOPT, or visit www.MAREinc.org.
MARE is a private, non-profit organization, working since 1957 to find a “permanent place to call home” for youth in foster care, including sibling groups and children who are traditionally harder to place. Every child deserves a “forever family.”
Jordan’s Furniture hosts Department of Children & Families’ Graduates at Reading Store
Over 200 youth in foster care earn diplomas and are honored at event
On Sunday evening, May 6th, Jordan’s Furniture and the Department of Children and Families (DCF) celebrated DCF youth graduates from the Class of 2012. The event took place at the Jordan’s store in Reading, MA and was hosted by Eliot Tatelman and DCF Commissioner Angelo McClain. Both addressed the honored youth. The evening included dinner, entertainment, and an awards program to acknowledge the great achievements of these youth in foster care. Each youth received a Certificate of Achievement, along with a gift from Jordan’s, including a sports bag, a Red Sox long-sleeve tee-shirt and cap, a TJX store gift card, a Target store gift card, and a cell phone.
Eliot Tatelman and Jordan's Furniture have been sponsoring this achievement celebration for foster youth since 2002, when over 75 celebrants from the DCF Metro Region were invited to the IMAX Theater in Natick. In 2007, the event grew and youth from across the state joined in the celebration. The celebration is now held in Reading to accommodate the number of youth, their foster parents, siblings, and social workers who gather to celebrate their academic achievements each May. Over 200 graduates attended this Sunday. “We are so proud to continue the tradition of hosting this wonderful event”, Tatelman says. “It is important to acknowledge the academic achievements of these great kids, many who have made it through some adverse conditions. It is our way to honor and support them. We look forward to future events and the continued partnership with DCF.”

On Saturday, April 28th at 9am, Jordan's Furniture delivered a truck full of baseball and softball equipment to Fenway Park for the Red Sox Foundation's inner city youth baseball program.
Through their "Double Play Youth Baseball Program," Jordan's Furniture collected gently used baseball and softball equipment from customers at all store locations to donate to the official Red Sox team charity for distribution to their Rookie and RBI youth baseball league teams.
"In this day and age of pay-to-play, there are thousands of kids that just cannot afford to play sports," said Eliot Tatelman of Jordan's Furniture. "We think that every youth should be able to enjoy America's favorite pastime, so we created the Play Ball Program. And with the help of the Red Sox Foundation, we'll be able to reach a lot of inner-city kids in our area."
"We are grateful to partner with community champion Jordan's Furniture on this terrific equipment drive for a second year," said Red Sox Foundation Executive Director and team Vice President for Corporate Affairs Meg Vaillancourt. "Through the collection of gently used equipment, Jordan's is making summer games possible for many disadvantaged kids."
This is the second year that Jordan's has run the youth baseball collection program.
On Thursday, April 19, 2012, Jordan’s hosted the MARE Video Snapshot Premiere Party at their IMAX Theater in Natick. The evening was hosted by Jordan’s President/CEO Eliot Tatelman and DCF Commissioner Angelo McLean. Guests included teens in foster care, social workers, foster families, and families waiting to adopt.
The teens produced the videos at a Video Snapshot Camp that took place during February vacation with documentary film students from Adephi University. They were taught the fundamentals of filmmaking including videography, staging, lighting, sound, acting, and interviewing. The project was in partnership with the Massachusetts Adoption Research Exchange.
