News & Events - Jordan's Furniture
As Jordan's opened its biggest and most exciting store in Reading, MA, the decision was made to close the original Waltham store. We just couldn't show the selection of merchandise in the old Waltham building that Jordan's is famous for. The Waltham store was started by Eliot and Barry's grandfather back in 1918 and it was with mixed emotions that the store closed on Saturday, October 23rd, 2004. All Waltham J-Team members are needed in other Jordan's locations and they will continue to keep the spirit and enthusiasm that was created over 80 years ago.
On Friday, October 29th, Jordan's Furniture opened its' biggest and craziest store to date. Grand attractions await under the roof of the brand-new Jordan's Furniture Superstore on route 128 in Reading, MA. Taking their retailing attractions to another level, Eliot and Barry have constructed "Beantown", an entire city within the walls of the Reading store. And the secret? It is made of Jelly Belly jelly beans.
Using 280,000 pounds of multi-colored Jelly Belly jelly beans, "Beantown" is a 17,000 square-foot area, complete with Beantown's Biggest Dig, a 40-foot high ice cream sundae made from over 4 million jelly beans. The structure is the home of a full-service ice cream shoppe, serving 62 flavors of Richardson Farms Ice Cream. Another jelly bean structure, The Sweet House (rather than The State House) needed over 6 million jelly beans to create the golden dome and multi-colored columns. The Sweet House is a unique candy store selling Jelly Belly jelly beans and more. Jordan's Green Monster is the same height as the original in Fenway Park. Wally the Mascot is perched atop, holding a Yankee player in his glove!
And there's more! Want a more interactive experience at Jordan's, rather than the sweet delights of candy and iced cream? How about flying? The Lenny Zakim Bridge within Beantown is the home of one of the only indoor trapeze schools in the country. Manned by industry professionals, customers will have the opportunity to fly through the store! And there is the Liquid Fireworks Show, a free water and lights spectacular. The Duck Tour Race will give customers a chance to challenge each other in this original carnival game.
If all of these attractions make you hungry, just stop into Johnny's Luncheonette, a full-service restaurant within Beantown, famous for fabulous home-cooking. Visit our 20,000 square-foot, 500-seat Comcast 3D IMAX Theater. Guests will see unbelievable films on an 8-stories high screen with 12,000 watts of mind-boggling sound.
Jordan's Reading store also has the largest showroom to date, encompassing over 160,000 square feet. Room after room of beautiful vignettes including bedrooms, dining rooms, mattresses, home office, home theater, leather and more. Within the showroom, there will also be a BOSE Home Theater retail store, complete with all of your home-theater electronic needs and a Pine Cone Hills retail store, selling beautifully designed sheets, comforters, and pajamas.
