The most traditional mattress type that most people are familiar with is the innerspring coil model. In general, the more coils you have, the more support and comfort you’ll enjoy. Firmness & Support || It’s easy to confuse the terms firmness and support. It can be very subjective, and varies from person to person. Generally, firmness has to do with how comfortable a mattress feels initially, while support refers to the proper alignment of your spine without creating pressure points that contribute to soreness and discomfort. Trying out a mattress makes perfect sense because initially a mattress might feel fine, but over time it may not be providing adequate support.

Sleep Position || One of the main characteristics of sleep is the position that feels most comfortable to you, whether it’s on your side, back, stomach, or a combination. Your sleep position helps determine the type of mattress that will probably work best for you. In addition, your pillow is equally important in helping you achieve a good night’s sleep. Typically, side sleepers don’t always stay in the same position, so they usually do best with soft to medium levels of firmness – a mattress that conforms to the contours of their body. Back sleepers usually do better with a mattress that’s firmer. If the mattress is too soft, it will create pressure points, putting the spine out of alignment. Stomach sleepers mainly need excellent support, because the torso applies the most pressure to the mattress, and if the mattress center sinks, it can cause the spine to curve, leading to lower back pain.
