Achieving Zen

White print fabric living room set

In a world full of chaos your home should be the one place you feel calm and sheltered. Calm is a term used loosely because with children and pets sometimes even home can feel like pandemonium; however, there are a few ways to achieve Zen in your home…

Nesting || Carve out a space in your home that can be all your own, even if only for a couple hours. If you cannot dedicate an entire room to yourself then it is time to get creative and find your Zen nest. Every home has a bathroom and nothing says Zen more than a soothing aromatherapy bath. Light a few candles, pour yourself a glass of wine, and R E L A X. Another great place to unwind is by a window in your bedroom. Open the window for some fresh air and ambient noise while curled up in your favorite chair.

Unplug || *gasp* yes, U N P L U G. Make it a trend in your home to disconnect from the outside world for at least an hour every day. While technology is amazing, it can also keep us from truly living in the moment and enjoying a state of nothingness. When was the last time you weren’t tethered to your phone? Sleeping does not count. Our minds are constantly being stimulated from the moment we rise until the moment we lay our head on the pillow. Unplug from all electronics one hour before bedtime and you will feel the difference in your quality of sleep.

De-Clutter || Free your mind and free your home of unnecessary things; cluttered home = cluttered mind. De-cluttering doesn’t mean you need to purge everything, but it does mean that the items you choose to keep should be organized. Seek out decorative storage pieces like bookcases, hutches, or credenzas so you can display or tuck away all your treasures in style!
