Sleep Better: Healthy Bedroom
5 Key Factors To A Proper Sleep Environment
Your bedroom should encourage a restful sleep. Think about how these elements affect your bedroom:
| 1. |
Light: Light is one of the body's most powerful time cues. Bright light tends to increase alertness. A dark room is more conducive to sleep. Use curtains or shades to prevent light from leaking into the room. |
| 2. |
Noise: Irregular or sudden loud noises from inside or outside the home can disrupt sleep or cause alertness. Steady, low sounds, such as a fan, are soothing and can block out distracting noises. |
| 3. |
Temperature: The ideal bedroom temperature is 60°F to 65°F. A room that is too warm or too cold disrupts sleep. |
| 4. |
Proper Sleep Surface: Be sure your mattress and foundation meet your needs for comfort and support. If you sleep with a partner, your mattress should allow you both enough space to move easily, without disturbing one another. |
| 5. |
Allergen Control: It's common sense: reduce your exposure to the irritants that cause your suffering, such as dust and dust mites, mold, mildew, etc. |
And, Make It A Healthy Environment
Whether or not you suffer from allergies, we recommend creating a healthier sleep environment. Here's how:
Encase your bedding
- It allows you to breathe and sleep better, so you feel better all day long.
Wash sheets and pillowcases often
- We recommend washing sheets and pillowcase at least once a week in hot water (140 degrees Fahrenheit or higher)
Avoid steam cleaning
- Steam cleaning increases humidity and moisture levels
