Demand Honest Comparisons
Model names differ from store to store. Oftentimes, color and name are all that differentiate products. Salespeople should know the market, and be able to provide clear comparisons between products.
Only Review Manufacturer Or Printed Specifications
Manufacturer specifications are the best means of legitimate product comparison. Avoid handwritten price tags and spec sheets because they could contain dishonest product information and inflated pricing.
Read The Small Print About Inflated Prices
Sales and discounts are meant to create urgency to buy now. These products most likely were never sold at their regular or original price. Most print advertisements offer a disclaimer stating this as such.
Don't Be Pressured By Sudden Price Drops
Salespeople make more money selling goods not listed in their current advertisements. Additional discounts for overstocks, mismatched sets or different fabrics may be offered, but it is difficult to determine their value when the original prices are inflated.
Educate Yourself Through Third Parties
Organizations such as the Better Business Bureau and Consumers Union (publisher of Consumer Reports magazine) provide tremendous support. Use them to learn more about retailers and their products.
