Over 150 guests came together on Tuesday afternoon September 17th at Jordan’s IMAX Theater in Natick to acknowledge youth in foster care who participated in a special video mentor program. These digital stories emphasize how caring adults create valuable opportunities for youth. The short individual videos show that one person can change the lifetime of a child in a positive and productive way. The US Department of Health and Human Services Children's Bureau has hosted these stories on their national website. The DCF Video Premiere event at Jordan’s Furniture included a pre-reception, a special screening of the youth videos and a post-reception with photos. May 2013 2013 Jordan’s Furniture Walk For Adoption

To benefit the Massachusetts Resource Exchange (MARE)
$60,000 Raised to Help Local Children Find Permanent Families
500 participate

Boston, MA- Some important steps were taken on May 19 – steps that will help local children and teens in foster care find the “forever families” they have been waiting for.

More than 500 adoption supporters and volunteers descended on Jordan’s Furniture in East Taunton for The Walk for Adoption. This non-competitive 5-K walk raised $60,000 for the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange’s (MARE’s) work to recruit adoptive parents for the hardest-to-place youth in state foster care. More than 800 individuals donated to this event in direct support of MARE.

The Walk brought together adoptive families from all over Massachusetts. NECN TV reporter Eileen Curran, her husband WCVB news anchor Bob Halloran, and their family led the Walk, with their adopted daughter. Why did other families walk? As one child explained, “I Walk for Adoption to help kids find families as great as mine.” The Edwards family, who adopted their son from foster care and were a top fundraiser for the event, put it this way: “We Walk for Adoption because we believe family means belonging and love, not biology!”

Eliot Tatelman, Jordan’s President and CEO, was also in attendance. He welcomed the crowd and then kicked off the event by personally shaking participants’ hands as they walked under a balloon arch to start the race. “We are proud to host this wonderful event for the fourth year. It is so great to not only see these wonderful families come together but to also know that the money raised for MARE programs will help find future homes for some very special kids.”

Walkers enjoyed a 5-K stroll around the Jordan’s Furniture corporate warehouse and enjoyed a post-walk party with a carnival atmosphere – stilt walker, caricatures, photo booth, arts & crafts activities, face painting, balloon art, raffles and more!

“This event not only raised critical funds, but it also helped bring people together to celebrate the importance of adoption,” said Lisa Funaro, executive director of MARE. “Every child deserves a loving family.”
