May 2012 2012 Youth Achievement Celebration
Jordan’s Furniture hosts Department of Children & Families’ Graduates at Reading Store
Over 200 youth in foster care earn diplomas and are honored at event
On Sunday evening, May 6th, Jordan’s Furniture and the Department of Children and Families (DCF) celebrated DCF youth graduates from the Class of 2012. The event took place at the Jordan’s store in Reading, MA and was hosted by Eliot Tatelman and DCF Commissioner Angelo McClain. Both addressed the honored youth. The evening included dinner, entertainment, and an awards program to acknowledge the great achievements of these youth in foster care. Each youth received a Certificate of Achievement, along with a gift from Jordan’s, including a sports bag, a Red Sox long-sleeve tee-shirt and cap, a TJX store gift card, a Target store gift card, and a cell phone.
Eliot Tatelman and Jordan's Furniture have been sponsoring this achievement celebration for foster youth since 2002, when over 75 celebrants from the DCF Metro Region were invited to the IMAX Theater in Natick. In 2007, the event grew and youth from across the state joined in the celebration. The celebration is now held in Reading to accommodate the number of youth, their foster parents, siblings, and social workers who gather to celebrate their academic achievements each May. Over 200 graduates attended this Sunday. “We are so proud to continue the tradition of hosting this wonderful event”, Tatelman says. “It is important to acknowledge the academic achievements of these great kids, many who have made it through some adverse conditions. It is our way to honor and support them. We look forward to future events and the continued partnership with DCF.”

April 2012 Jordan’s Double Play Program delivers!
On Saturday, April 28th at 9am, Jordan's Furniture delivered a truck full of baseball and softball equipment to Fenway Park for the Red Sox Foundation's inner city youth baseball program.
Through their "Double Play Youth Baseball Program," Jordan's Furniture collected gently used baseball and softball equipment from customers at all store locations to donate to the official Red Sox team charity for distribution to their Rookie and RBI youth baseball league teams.
"In this day and age of pay-to-play, there are thousands of kids that just cannot afford to play sports," said Eliot Tatelman of Jordan's Furniture. "We think that every youth should be able to enjoy America's favorite pastime, so we created the Play Ball Program. And with the help of the Red Sox Foundation, we'll be able to reach a lot of inner-city kids in our area."
"We are grateful to partner with community champion Jordan's Furniture on this terrific equipment drive for a second year," said Red Sox Foundation Executive Director and team Vice President for Corporate Affairs Meg Vaillancourt. "Through the collection of gently used equipment, Jordan's is making summer games possible for many disadvantaged kids."
This is the second year that Jordan's has run the youth baseball collection program.
