The Holiday Spoons Project

FOR THE PAST TEN YEARS, Jordan's Furniture has been a proud sponsor of the Holiday Spoons Project. In conjunction with Project Bread, the program promotes involvement in children's youth groups, schools, neighborhood groups, and even family activities.

The concept of the Holiday Spoons Project is simple: children take ordinary wooden spoons and create a work of art. The spoons are then sold for donation money. That money is put toward preventing hunger throughout Massachusetts. By participating, the children learn about hunger and about how their efforts help those in need.

Our Role

Jordan's Furniture matches all Holiday Spoons Project donations (up to $10,000). That means, for example, that classrooms collecting $250 from their artistic spoons will actually be donating $500 to Project Bread.

In addition, the Jordan's Furniture marketing team has been very successful in drumming up donations from individual classrooms. To help encourage school groups to participate, for example, we reward whichever school group raises the most in Holiday Spoons Donations with a "private screening" of a popular film in our IMAX theater.

"We know from individual letters and other feedback that our matching program is an incentive to many teachers and students to try and collect as much as possible and, thereby, donate the maximum amount to Project Bread," says Eliot Tatelman, president and CEO of Jordan's Furniture. "We have continued to participate in the Holiday Spoons Project for almost 10 years now because of this reaction from area schools. In the end, more families-in-need are being fed. That is the bottom line."

How You Can Help
